We're using LLATL green with ds13 along with Sentence composing for elementary students (for writing). Ds has some LD's so I felt fundamentally he needed to go back to basics on writing. I was just wondering what most are using with LLLATL green for a writing program. I think he's going to work through sentence composing quickly so I wanted to look ahead. Thanks so much!

Have you tried Writing Strands or IEW? We've used WS in the past and will probably continue to use it but my girls are taking an IEW class with another mom for the coming year (I hope it works out well!).

Well, we use the dreaded and maligned Writing Strands!!! It works so well with us and is a good fit with LLATL, so that's what we use. I like the simplicity of the lessons so I can fill it out more with what I want each dc to work on individually. It's not something they work totally independently on, I give them, at times, assignments that add more substance to their writing.
I also have them continue with copywork, dictation, and written narrations as well as journaling.

We have used LLATL since my eldest ds was in 3rd grade, (yellow book, I believe) and have used the Wordsmith series--W.Apprentice/Wordsmith/W.Craftsman--(very lightly) along with it in the Middle School/Early High School years. I believe that the middle level, just plain 'ole Wordsmith, works fairly well at the age of your student.
