View Full Version : Caesar's English I-Michael Clay Thompson
Can one get away with only purchasing the teacher's manual for Caesar's English as with Grammar Island/Town/Voyage? Or is it best to purchase the studend book as well?
TIA!

Thank you! Yeah! :) What a deal... high quality and affordable...

Just wanted to add that the only one that I've found where both TM and student book are necessary is the Practice Island/Town/etc. series.

I have had 2 children study with the Caesar’s English books. Neither child had the book at first. One teacher tried to get the students to looks up definitions on dictionary.com. THIS DOES NOT WORK! The books are written perfectly for comprehension and understanding. Removing the student textbook from the teaching greatly diminishes ANY learning. Once I got a student copy (because we were getting D's), each went from D's to A's. Now they get nearly 100% every time!
I now hear about other chidlren struggling (in various different ways). My heart goes out to them. The learning is really easy to master, if you use the books. Dictionary.com is not written for elementary students. Plus, the book gives 3 examples per word to know how it is used. So, instead of learning just the pretexes, they learn 15 new words per week.
Be fair to the children. The books are awesome. Use them!

I just got the complete Island level on Ebay, very reasonably (I'm guessing the seller didn't get past Grammar Island, based on the way the books look), so they do sometimes appear used.

This post completely confuses me. My teacher's manual for CE1 has a copy of the student book in front and the teacher material in the back. It is essentially a student book with a bit of extra stuff stuck to it.

It sounds to me like she had her children in a group class where only the teacher had the manual. In that situation, I can see where she might have a point. However, in a family setting, only the TM would be needed.
