Well we went back today and I was freaking out after last time. I got to talk to the guy and I had had a little talk with ds. I told ds that he had to at least try to be of help so we could figure out what we needed to do to help him. That seemed to have made a huge difference. After the test our eye dr said "I don't know what you are doing with him but have you seen the progress he is making?" I won't know the results of the tests until Friday but ds offered to do the writing again. The dr said it took half the time and then showed me the one from this week and the one from last week. I was amazed. It had to have been the best letters I had ever seen out of him. The dr photo copied them for me so I could keep them. You know we have been practicing the fine motor skills and writing and I knew that he had come a LONG way in the last few months but this was amazing. Today the testing was tracking. Last week it was visual perceptions. His visual perceptions test score were quite high. The dr said he had to go over it some more but tracking did seem a bit more trouble for him. Is that normal? I mean to be visually perceptive but to still have trouble tracking? His dad is wondering if he is just finally maturing enough and now it might just start to happen for him.
Thanks for all of the support two weeks ago. It took me a few days to recover from it. And after thinking it through I didn't change anything in his curriculum just for the tests.

My dd's test scores ranged from 1st percentile to 99th percentile. She had great visual perceptual skills, but her accommodation and tracking skills were very poor.

I forgot how old your son is? Some children do lag in development and then catch up. A lot depends on the child's age and the types of problems you are seeing. With my dd, her fluency when reading was a very obvious problem that had not improved in at least 6 months.

My ds is seven he will be eight in May. I have to say although his made strides in lots of areas he cannot read a sentence without sounding out every single word. Even if he knows every word in the sentence and has been able to tell me what they say if each word is on a flash card. I wish I knew how to block out all of the other words when he is reading a sentence because I think he might actually read it quicker and get the meaning. Comprehending is hard when you have to sound out every word as you go.

It sure sounds as if vision is a problem if he can read a word without sounding it out when it's on a flashcard, but has to sound it out when reading text. Let us know what the test results are when you get them.
