How do you schedule the text, workbook, CWP, IP, & cd's (Vroot Vroom)? Do you work in certain books on certain days, or a little of each every day? I have the HIG, but I don't see where CWP and IP are scheduled, am I missing something? Please help me by posting your schedule.

I use the IP at the end of each chapter (but move through the chapter quicker than as scheduled in the HIG).

I am only using the text and workbook this year, because I'm supplementing with MUS. So I go through one lesson in the text (the amount from one workbook assignment to the next), mostly orally, except when there are problems that he needs to put on paper to work, and then he does the corresponding workbook exercise(s). At the end of chapters, we do one review per day. I save all the workbook reviews and use them as tests at the end, after we've finished all work in the book.

When I used to do Singapore solely, I would also make assignments from the extra practice workbooks, as needed, so my older son could work on mastery. And I would periodically work through the challenging word problems exercises with him, too.

We just use IP when needed. My son is fairly quick and rarely makes a mistake--so I give him whatever the HIG tells me too and no more. I've only had to use IP once this year and then I used all the worksheets on that topic over a few days: and then we just picked up in the Textbook/workbook where we left off. The HIG does schedule the CD.

We do one to two lessons a day depending on how quick she is "getting it". I review with CWP and IP at the end of each month as I use the bks from the year before as review. If she is having trouble I may break out this years IP to help, but I have yet to do so the second time with younger dd.

My children work for 5 times their age minutes per day. We go over the textbook together and they do the workbook on their own. They can usually get through several lessons per day, but it really varies by topic. Somedays they only finish one lesson.

Teach lesson from text
Child does at least one entire assignment in workbook.

I've used IP for revision if necessary. At about midway through the program or at the end of the year I do schedule a mess of word problems from CWP. Then I have the child take the "test" which is really a "revision" in the workbook. At the end of a grade level we do Federal Test Papers, which really are practice tests.

I do the CDs on days I need a break, or if I can remember, to reinforce a topic taught in the text...it would probably be useful to go through the text and pencil in a giant warning sign to vist the same topic in the CD so that I'll have a reminder when I get to that point. The kids manage to do all the activities on the CD simply out of boredom or curiousity without me making a point to make sure to schedule it, but it would probably be beneficial to do it along with textbook.

Last year I only used the IP along with the Text/Workbook and I would use it after we completed an entire topic and workbook section.

This year I bought the Challenging Word Problems (and haven't used it yet). Once we get a bit deeper into the topics (we are on topic 2 in book 2a still) I plan to add a few word problems in during the week as a supplement to the regular lessons. Does that make sense?

Oh, and I do the review section at the end of the topic (in the workbook) after we finish the IP and before we go onto the next topic. I never use the practice questions from the end of topic in the text...but I'm thinking these might make good to use for end of year evaluation.

I don't have the HIG, but I'm thinking I will buy it next year...I am always struggling to work out the lesson plans.

Oh get the instructor's guide--especially if you are struggling! I tweak it a bit, but it's essential to me to keep track of where we are! (Never mind the "teaching" section--my poor son wouldn't know anything if I didn't have that!) And there are solutions in the HIG which is very helpful to Mom's tired brain!

Could I insert another question? I am fairly new to Singapore. The only books I have been using are the textbooks and workbook. I was unaware of the IP (what is that?) and the Challenging Word Problems. Are they for extra practice, or do they take the math lessons to another level? In other words - if she is "getting" the material from the text and workbooks, do I need to add these other books?

We just started with Singapore this year and I only have the HIG, txt, and workbook. We do a text and workbook lesson a day. So days we skip the text if ds10 is grasping it well. We don't use the HIG as directed, but I feel more secure having it.

We have been using flashcards as drill, and will add one of supplement books for next year.

Thanks, I can't beleive I didn't know about these. I'm adding them to my list for next year. Hopefully they will help me with planning and give me some direction for 3rd grade!

This is the first year I have used the Challenging Word Problems (actually haven't started them yet). My level 2 book (one book for a/b) has 24 problems for each topic (same topic order as the text) the first 12 are basic problems and the last 12 are labeled challenging.

There is an intensive practice book for each text (2a and 2b intensive practice). These problems require more thinking and reasoning and are often very challenging (I have trouble figuring some of them out!) My daughter enjoys trying to figure them out and I think ,even if I have to show her how to solve them, she is getting something out of it. I think they are great for going beyond the topic but not essential for understanding the basics. Some of the Intensive Practice problems are word problems too.

Also, there is an Extra Practice book which apparently is just more basic problems. For my child, there are plenty of basic problems to acheive mastery between the text and the workbook. If you feel like you need more basic problems then I would get this book not Intensive Practice.

Next year I will probably skip the Challenging Word problems, but I do like the Intensive practice and will continue with it. Also I just found out about the Instructor Guides and I will be adding those :) Hope that helps!

Umm...(looking around the room, anywhere but the screen)... I take the easy way out. I have them do one lesson a day in the primary text, then one page (front or back not both, so half a page?) from either a CWP or IP. They play the CD as they feel inspired. We hs year around, so when they finish their main books they just do more CWP and IP.

I figure that just makes the CWP and IP review. :D

Thank you all. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a specific schedule to follow with the CWP & IP. Off to make my own schedule.
