Hold on, everyone. Something wicked this way comes.
Everybody got flashlights? A hiding place?
I am a nervous wreck.
Check in, people, when you can.

I am just going to use this thread to chatter nervously to myself while watching the weather. I have nothing to say, I went around slinging rep at people I like until I ran out of rep (is anyone not using theirs? I need something constructive to do).
I am really, really nervous tonight. My area tends to get hit pretty hard when these things come through.

After it works it way through your area, guess it is heading this way next. Woohoo! We've got a lot full of really tall trees. The last big wind thing last week took one out across the road and did some damage to a house and car. It always makes me nervous when those huge trees start swaying in the big wind. I'm with you on that one Kelli!

Hickory Ridge Mall in Memphis was hit. The roof has collapsed with victims inside.

And how do you even assign the rep things anyway? And how many do get to give? Clueless here!

You click on the little scale on the upper right hand corner of the post and then say I approve or I disapprove. I have no idea how many you get, but I use them all up everyday. I rep posts and then I just start repping people I like! Silly, huh?

of that same nasty weather blow through here; the wind started whipping around and the temp. dropped 20 degrees in a matter of minutes. It was wild! I was watching the map for Memphis.
We'll say prayers for your safety and protection! :)

I know how scary it is out there. Really, unbelievably, scary. I will pray for your fears, and your safety.
When we went through our first spring here in Virginia, after being in Middle Tennessee for 13 years, I laid in the floor and cried for happiness when I knew I wouldn't have to continually live through that stuff.
Hugs, hugs, hugs to you,
~Lisa

My mom is near Birmingham, and she lives in a tiny little house with no "safe" place. She's supposed to go to my aunts house and stay there until my dad is off work at 12:30 tonight, the weather people are predicting foul weather for their area from 9pm until 9am- I am worried about my dad driving home (it takes about an hour) in such horrible weather.
ITU being so nervous, hugs and prayers.

I'm not ready! I'm near N'ville and it is headed this way in a matter of time! Have the news on and just watching the little shear markers on WSMV. I'm alone with the kids and I don't like this. The last time we were hit (april in 2005) one of the 30 some tornadoes formed over our house and I was huddled in the closet with the boys by myself. 15 tornadoes in TNso far the news just reported.
Hanging on!!!!!!

I hope she's alright . My mom said it looked like y'all are in severe weather until about midnight?
Glad you're safe.
I've got channels 3 & 5 pulled up on the computer. Man, that looks scary. Was the mall the only major thing damaged or was there damage at the airport?

Looks like Jackson got hit really bad. Students trapped in a dorm at Union University as well as a retirement home hit. Plus a huge pile up of semi trucks on I 40.
Headed our way in about a half hour...

Where is Kelli?!?
There are still 2 people trapped in the mall (and looting has already been a problem), some people trapped in an office building, damage to the airport, and major damage to Union University in Jackson.
And more storms on the way! Hunker down!
Back to my storm watch.

We are just south of Memphis and our power blinked a few times, but the winds weren't that bad here. We were listed as being along the southern line of the severe weather, so we obliviously sat with candles lit and flashlights at the ready while we ate and meanwhile the tornado sirens went off on campus (we apparently can't hear them form 3 miles away) and dh and his class scrambled to the basement. Glad I didn't know until he got home or I would have been a nervous wreck. Time to get a weather alert radio.

Time to get a weather alert radio.
I have often thought to buy one but haven't. Sure wish i had one especially since we have another batch coming through between 2-4 am. guess it'll be a long night.
Glad to hear you are okay. It's headed towards all of my friends in Franklin now. Crossing my fingers it misses us!

Looks like the next batch is headed right towards Jackson and Nashville.
And here - sirens are going off again. I can't tell from the map if it's going to bypass us or not - update @ 9:27: apparently NOT! We're on warning.Guess it's back to the basement for us.
I'm worried about Kelli. Just heard they're opening shelters in Jackson.

I think it is Union, but I hope I'm wrong (or is it Lambuth?). The women's' dorm at Union was demolished, and lots of damage to the men's. Some people were trapped - I think they're all out now. Cars destroyed, too.
How scary!

Never mind. Just learned today that a tornado passed within a couple miles of my house last night. Students at the University were able to film it from their dorm room window, and my house is between where they were filming and where the tornado was. Ack! Ordered the alert radio today.
