although the car is still here, it's badly damaged and won't start. I'm not happy. I've been dealing with the police, the insurance and the garage. They've all been helpful and efficient, which is some consolation.

And I just realized that the thieves took my brand-new sunglasses, the first pair of really nice sunglasses I've had.

Add this to my MIL being here and I am NOT happy. I think today is just going to be one long pity-party for me.

How very upsetting! Can you replace the sunglasses today just so you feel you have corrected some small part of this nonsense? Sending you some cyberhugs! Jacqui

Here's some more hugs :grouphug:. Our car was stolen before, in the middle of the day while we were all sleeping. The police found it a week later, everything that was in the car was gone. They had used a knife and cut in the back of the driver's seat. It was very violating and sickening.

I'm glad yours wasn't taken. Hopefully you can get it repaired quickly. Is this normal for your area?

I can't stand it when people cause such frustration for others. Good grief. Hope the police catch them!

Earlier this year someone shot out a window in each of our minivans. And windows in 40-something vehicles in our city.

Wish people could find something constructive to do. Like working to buy their OWN car.

Apparently this happens frequently. It's a well-organized crime "ring" that takes orders for air-bags (safety-conscious but immoral buyers I guess). The thieves then go find a suitable car, break in and take the air bags. The seats are also in demand. Fortunately, our seats were not stolen, just the air bags. The job was professionally done -- nicely and neatly, no unnecessary damage to the paint or anything.

The car and I got towed to the dealership, who contacted the insurance and gave us a loaner car. DH and I made our official police report. The police were very sympathetic, which helps. We'll have the car back in a week.

So, this stinks, but it's just a car. I've spent a lot of time today thinking about a colleague who is at a funeral for his younger brother today; nothing like that to put a little theft into perspective.

Thank you for your sympathy -- it helps.

Oh man, that stinks! I remember when we were living in Irvine, CA near Los Angeles and I went out to my car and sure enough, our tires were stolen - our car was left on cinder blocks. Oy! Although really not the same as your experience! How maddening and scary!

We had a car stolen from in front of our house. Police were sure my DH was out partying and forgot where he left it..didn't happen that way guys.

It was dark and when the sun came up the police found it. Wrapped around a tree a block away. The woman whose yard it was in, heard the noise but was afraid to call police.?????

Anyway, my soapbox is Do these creeps have any idea what they did to you/our life???
We had no money for another car, and only had PLPD insurance. Hubby worked 1/2 hour a way..so we were just one car until our friends gave us a car that was pretty dead and my hu;bby resurrected it. he had to drive it until we put together enough money for a nother car.
Even if insurance covers it...it is so stressful to be gong thru that!

Well that just rots. I'm so sorry. I know that feeling of violation. Their life moves on; your life is turned upside down. :grouphug:

I hope they catch the creep(s).

The creeps don't give a rip what they do to their victim's lives. Your items are merely a means to an end, be it simply money or drugs or both.

I had my house broken into 3 times in 2 months. There are 3 families in Mexico with very nice TV's, VCR's, microwave ovens, not to mention lovely suits and dresses for work, expensive shoes and clothes for a 3 year old boy. Add to that someone down there has the clarinet I marched in the Rose Parade in, as well as the cross stitched quilt my grandmother took two years to make for me. The police told me not to bother looking at pawn shops or consignment stores for my things and clothes, they were 99% sure it all landed in Mexico. OH, and the thieves would empty my fridge and freezer, too. :glare:

Sorry to hear about that. The crime has gone up some in my area as well. My husband thought of getting a big dog for the front yard. You may want to also. It may help scare them off.
