...for the second week in a row, there is too much snow for us to go skiing. As they say Down East, "Cahn't get theyah from heyah." Highway is closed for avalanche control.

Now are you ready for the reallllly big faux whine? I got new skis 2 weeks ago and have been snowed out since!

And the BIGGEST part of this whine is that 2 of ds's friends got the day off to go with him...so we have three disappointed boys instead of only one. (But they have managed their sorrow and are building LEGOs in the basement...hiding their agony pretty darn well.) :p

You may now resume your life, pitying me for thinking this is actually something to whine about. :o

Can I whine right back. We have no snow. We never get snow. We love snow. We WANT snow!!!!! So if you send me half of yours, we could both be happy! So sorry you are stuck with a new toy you can't use.

My poor kids have tried twice this year to go skiing--both times (once in Jan. and once in Feb.) it was too warm--IN INDIANA. That's wrong, just plain wrong!

We have had so much snow this year (Eastern OR). No end in sight, either - we have snow forecast for every day this week. In between getting plowed out, we have been snowed in (or at least likely to be stuck a half mile away from home) for the past two weeks. It seems like forever. The road was plowed yesterday and I went to the library and grocery store for 2 blissful hours -- the first time I have been out in days. In fact, our little one-lane road looks more like a carved out corridor than a road. When the wind blows and drifts it feels more like driving along the bottom of a horizontal tube. When it starts to melt we are going to have one big mess!

We got new sleds for xmas and no snow so far this winter!:( The kids are pretty disappointed.

We have been able to ski though. The temp has been good for making snow at our local ski slopes.

We're having the same problem here. In fact, I just finished being dug out of the driveway. Whine away.

My son and dh went to Stevens Pass last Saturday, is that near you? They had no problems getting there, but it was crowded.

It's funny to read the replies here. I think when we talk about "too much snow" people who live elsewhere may be under the impression that we literally have snow right at our homes. The mountains are getting a good ol' dump, for sure; they're grooming like crazy at Baker, getting ready for this weekend's Legendary Banked Slalom. The road up is pretty much always open, but some chairs were closed today due to high winds. They're supposed to get a couple of feet in the next day or two. My whine is that we can't get up there because of actual work.:(

Why kind of skis did you get?

Oh, I got a new pair of K2s--I always get K2s. But this set is shorter and has a tighter radius, so my little chicken liver will stay put when I get off the bunny slopes NEXT WEEK. My old skis were longer than Boy's instructor's--and he is a fabulous skier--and 6" taller than I am and a lot stronger. I am a wuss and not able to manage the length of the skis I had. Other than that, they are blue. (Yay!)

At least your whine is real...

Oh, I got a new pair of K2s--I always get K2s.

You mean K2, the company that left our very own Vashon Island after three decades, in favor of manufacturing in China? I can't hear you, I can't hear you...

But this set is shorter...I am a wuss and not able to manage the length of the skis I had.

Oh, you hush up; no friend o' mine is a wuss!;) It's interesting, the change in what is considered ideal ski length. Used to be "in my day", the better the skier, the longer the skis. Now the "long ski" effect is gone, thank goodness. I have no doubt that the skis I started on were way longer than those I have now.

Oh, yes--we could go to Stevens, but it is 2 hours drive, and we usually only drive 1 hour, door to lift, so that's a bit further. The road to Stevens was open a lot more last week, but even so, it was closed a few times. We plan to go there in a couple of weeks--it is a better area than where we ski, but our instructor is one of the tops in the country and that counts for a lot. I will be happy to ski on some new slopes though!
