If I was just introducing the subject, I really think "Opening Skinner's Box" would be a good psych introduction. She hits major psych figures in an entertaining and interesting fashion, and it provides a good jumping off point for more discussion. I think The Tipping Point and Blink are a nice compliment as well. If a high schooler enjoyed these, I'd look at an actual psych or soc (depending which one they liked - psych would be Opening Skinner's Box or Blink and Soc would be The Tipping Point) text book; I don't have a specific recommendation.

Actually, I could just keep recommending 'real' books - I think beginning psych and soc should be taught without too much of a textbook approach. I'm happy to provide more book recommendations if you are interested!

Recently, I was very pleased to discover "Homeschool Psych", recently written by Tim Rice. Subtitled: Preparing Christian Homeschoolers for Psych 101.

http://www.homeschoolpsych.com/

It is (basically) a semester-long class, intended to bridge the homeschool highschooler to the General Psych college class. It is intended to help *Christian* families build a solid foundation in psychology before the child (as a college freshman) is challenged in his faith in a secular class.

The author has been very helpful, and responds to questions.

The text covers basic psychology theories & psychologists, but also explains the different opinions Christians have of psychology. There is an accompanying student workbook with chapter quizzes, etc. which is very helpful.

I'm very grateful for this new option.

Me again....

Standard Deviants makes a psychology video that many libraries have, and Amazon has for less than $13. It's pretty good; another good jumping off point. They also make a sociology one, which I haven't seen yet.

The Teaching Company offers on that I have listened to parts of that is more rigorous... I love anything they make.

I'd like to recommend a fun read in this area if you do decide to go the living books route.

Quirkology: How We Discover the Big Truths in Small Things by Richard Wiseman. You can read about it here: http://www.amazon.com/Quirkology-Discover-Truths-Small-Things/dp/0465090796
