What is the best place to find used books?

I am looking for some used books--horse training, general reading material, etc. (not school stuff). I was wondering where the best places to check are. Used books are fine. Where else besides ebay can you find them?

Other places to check are http://www.bestwebbuys.com , Amazon and http://www.half.com . Sometimes I check overstock.com and buy.com for new ones, as they can have shipping specials that bring down the cost.

There are some good used book stores that you can find through Amazon. I've always had great success and service through the ones I've used.

They have a used book tab. It uses a used book service called "Alibris" that is nationwide. I find all sorts of out-of-print and specialty books that way.

Personally bookmooch and paperbackswap are two of my favorite internet sites. I have found an amazing number of good books at each. Most libraries have a used book table, this can be hit or miss. Goodwill stores tend to have a lot of used books on all types of subjects. Ebay is excellent if you are looking for something specific at a good price.

At Paperbackswap.com, if you don't have books to give away (or are just terrible at actually getting things in the mail, like me), you can buy credits for $3.45 (maybe $3.75?) each, which you can use to order books from other members. If you can find the books you need listed there, or are willing to wait for them to come up, that method is the cheapest I've found outside of library/thrift store/garage sale books (which I find to be needle-in-a-haystack kinds of things anyway).

Tom Folio is a bookseller's coop formed in response to the outrageously high fees charged to the seller by abe, amazon, bn and alibris. The sellers still list their books at the other places because their goal is to sell books.

Horse Books Plus is a good place for horse books. The owner is honest as the day is long. She has been a personal friend of mine for 12 years and a bookseller colleague for 11 years.

Second hand or thrift stores! I find great stuff there all the time for peanuts. Check Goodwill, Salvation Army, Bibles for Missions and St. Vincent de Paul's.

If you have any Half Price bookstores in your area, they carry tons of used as well as discounted new materials.
