I posted this on their boards, but it doesn't look like anyone is even logged in over there, so I'm trying the Hive!

I would like to make several weeks worth of lesson plans at once and I'd like to be able to just say (for instance):
Subject: Writing/Composition
Resource: Writing Aids
And then I would like to type up, week by week, which assignments I'm giving to each child.

I guess I'm asking if there is any way to make a plan solely based on the subject and the book(s) used and then import those into a larger calendar?

I don't know if I'm expressing myself well or not. I'm trying to avoid having to week by week go in and pull up child #1 then stick in his info, and so forth. I just want to do several week's worth of a given subject on the same page at once and then import it to a calendar.

Mostly just answering to bump you, but I Think this would be easy to do as a Lesson Plan for each child. That is, you would call one LP "Composition Fall '08/Writing Aids/Child A" and the other "Composition Fall '08/Writing Aids/Child B" and then you could create the assignments with all the details you wanted, then you assign the lessons to each child as you needed them.
Is this at all what you are asking about?
I've only been using HST+ since around March, so I'm no expert. If you are currently using the program, I'm sure you know more than I do, but at least I gave you a bump, and hopefully someone else will chime in!

ETA: You could certainly fill in your student assignment charts for many weeks or months in advance. And then if you didn't get to things, you could delete and then reassign from the LP or just bump the assignments. I just find it easier to do one week's assignment charts at a time because we never do get Everything done and it is so easy to make the assignments from the LP's once they are created.

Are you currently using Homeschool Tracker? I am only using the free version. If you are, have you made templates of your most common assignments? I do templates for almost everything and you can easily update the template with minor changes. I've not found a way to assign something to both my children at once. I did find that if I went to the correct date on the calendar, then clicked the template, it would automatically fill in that date for the assignment. On my templates, I try to fill in as much as possible, even the points they will get for doing it. I give mine full credit on daily assignments if they did it all. I only give grades on quizzes or tests, so on those assignments I leave the points earned blank until they actually take it.

I do a master plan on paper for the whole month, then I enter each assignment for the week on Sunday nights.

I hope this helps.:)

Melora,
Thanks so much for the bump! :001_smile:
Yes, I see what you're saying. That might actually work. I'll have to play around with it more. I have had the free version for at least a year now, but I'd never used it. Today I wanted to enter things and became frustrated by the limitations of the free version, so I went ahead and paid for the Plus.

Thanks again! :D

Yes, I think that does help, especially since I didn't even know about any templates til now. I'll have to go check that out too!
I should've known better than to wash dishes during the tutorial because now I'm sure that I missed things!

Thanks a bunch!!! :D

What are you having trouble with? I do that for the whole year!

After you make your lesson plan, you can just submit those lessons to the assignment grid. If you get off track for any reason, and can't just fix it by moving up or back a day (or in other words, if you want to start over from scratch), just delete the assignments and submit them again.

You can submit them to go, say, every Thursday. Just mark that when you're submitting them to the assignments.

You can also do subject: TOG course: Writing Aids, which I've heard some people do. I have mine separate, as subjects English/Literature, and then History.

Hi Anj,

You may want to see if a Lesson Plan has already been created for what you are trying to do. I have been entering plans into HST+ this week (this is my first time using the lesson plan feature), and I saved an unbelievable amount of time importing plans others had shared, and then modifying them to fit our needs.

Wow, where did you find those? That could be very cool!

Okay, I need to think about this more. I have no brain cells left tonight. I will try that tomorrow.
Thanks, babe!;)

There are a lot lesson plans already completed that you can import into HST+. You will need to subscribe to the following groups, so that you have access to the files.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hst-social/
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hst-la/
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hst-la2/

The bummer though, is that Tapestry will not let HST users share TOG lesson plans, so you will have to enter all TOG related items yourself :ack2:. I am actually going to "ground myself" from this board as of noon tomorrow, so that I can finish all my lesson plans.

HTH!

Hmmm...that doesn't surprise me one bit. Oh well. I will take a look at the Science and language arts stuff. Thanks for the links. I'd rep you if I had any left!! :001_smile:

Another point brought up about HST plans for TOG is that if you're doing any amount of tweaking, choosing, etc., lesson plans wouldn't do you any good, anyway.

I have imported lesson plans from those yahoo groups before, but they're never in the format that I do them, so I can't understand them anyway.
