View Full Version : Okay, about IEW for high-schoolers (as recommended to me in another post)

Someone recommended using the SWI-C DVD, which is the intensive for high schoolers (and I'm thinking it would be fine with my 7th, 9th and 10th/11th graders). Is that ALL I would need to purchase? I have to be honest. The website just throws me off. I want to know everything I need to buy to make this work! Do I need the TWSS seminar, or can I get by with just buying the SWI-C set? I think I have access to the TWSS seminar on VHS, and we used IEW in a co-op YEARS ago, but I really don't want to have to spend the $$ on the TWSS seminar (nor do I want to watch it if I can help it). Is just getting the SWI set enough, and will I be able to get what I need from it by just watching that?
Thanks!

Yes, the SWI-C DVD is enough. It is the taping of a class he did . My son just watched it and did the lessons along with the class.
Later, I bought the TWSS seminar, and it did have some helpful hints. But, my son did just fine before we had it. If you do have a chance to borrow one, have your children watch it. TWSS is directed to the teacher, but is just as effecient (maybe better) to have older students watch it for themselves.

You could use either...if you used the TWSS, you'd have more flexibility (you could buy one of the theme-based books, for example...we use IEW with Trisms (our history curriculum) which has it "buillt in." Of course, you would still need TWSS...

Don't forget, you can print off FREE lessons plans for the SWI from the IEW website. These give you a 15 week plan for the SWI and weekly assignments.

Chiming in late and agreeing with the others that SWI-C is fine without TWSS. Also, Stacey, I used it in August with my 10th, 8th/9th and 7th graders and they all did fine with it. If you don't need it right away, there's a chance you might find it on the IEW Yahoo buy/sell group. You could post a WTB; it seems that most things for sale are scooped up rather quickly.

I think we're just wanting to know if we can get by just using the SWI-C without buying the TWSS, i'd rather not have to buy them both because it's pretty exspensive to do so, if I can help it. Thanks for any answers.

Mama25angels,
I edited my above post. I meant to write that SWI-C is fine without TWSS. It can be used as a stand-alone IMO because Pudewa teaches the course on the DVD.

Lisa, thank you so much, you don't know how relieved I am to hear this. I have been talking to myself all day trying to figure out a way to get both with our curriculum budget and trying to get TT Geo. as well as a Biology course for my Hs.

I have access to TWSS. The $99 for the SWI-C isn't bad. It's really not when you consider you will use it for 3 kids.
I think I'm going to jump right in and buy this as soon as I can (hopefully next week when I get my taxes).

That's why I was hoping we could just use the SWIC because that's an excellent price to use for three kids. Will you start the program immediately when you get it or will you wait for the next school term. I'm thinking of getting it and watching it some myself and then starting my kids.
