for the final 2.
DS13 (not a good reader, but LOVES being read to) and
DD6, who is reading quite well.
DS is ALL boy, loves scouts, fishing, hunting etc. He Loves being read to and comprehends everything well.
DS - quick and also Loves being read to.
We are considering SL again, but don't know where to start. They are so far apart in their ages, and it is funny to me that I would be writing here, but really need some help. Is TOG a possiblity or combining 2 SL Cores??
With the other kids, we used SL for many years, and then switched to BJU, as they both were self-motivated and wanted more textbook type learning, along with reading SL Books. Funny to me... but they both are doing well in life!!
Thank you to any help, in advance.:bigear:

What is keeping DS13 from being a good reader? That would be my top priority this year. Does he have dyslexia? What have you tried? There are a few programs that get really good results, but before I'd recommend anything, it would be good to have more background.

to be quite honest - up till last year, He was just lazy. He has finally had the desire to read, and is taking off now. I new another mom who's son did not read until he was 14. No learning disability - etc. Just totally not interested and then when he did, caught up and exceeded grade level within a year.
No dyslexia. We took him to an excellent reading teacher last year (at our wits end)... She said she could see just such great improvement now that he is really motivated. Some kids are just like that. So, any recommendations are welcome.. Thank you!!

Have you considered Winter Promise? They are also lit heavy, but have programs designed specifically for the ability to combine ages.
I've used it along with SL books, and it was one of dd's favorite years. She's 12 1/2.

If he still needs help with reading, then REWARDS secondary published by Sopris West, would be my recommendation.
TOG is most worth it once you have a child in logic stage, but that would involve the child reading at that level. It's more than you need for grammar stage, IMO. You could use some of the grammar-stage books for him to read for his fluency development. I would have him read to you more than vice versa, if you really want to see that reading take off. You can assign him shorter sections of the logic stage books, or read portions of those to him aloud.
Doing two Sonlight cores is a major pain in the neck. I don't think Sonlight is as good as TOG for logic stage and up.
