I am in the 2nd year of hsing 4th grade ds. Next year I will bring home 5th grade dd. I am cringing at the thought of what it will take to de-tox dd before school next fall. (Dd always did well in school, but this year she has developed bad attitudes about schoolwork.) Any experienced suggestions?

Why not bring her home right now?

You definitely might want to bring her home now. You could light school with her..just the basics and see where she's at. Spend lots of time reading, having fun and detoxing. That way next fall your all ready to go.

When I pulled mine (my stepson) out of school many years ago we went straight to our homeschool program. He would not have done well transitioning to a relaxed structure considering how much structure he needed when he was that age (he's 15 now).

In my experience, detoxing is overrated (but needed by some kids) and just the ability to be at home, out of a classroom made it much easier for him to tolerate doing his classwork which he had a very bad attitude about.

So, if you need to take some time to just have your kids read some books, do some placement tests to figure out where they are and start but depending on your kids you might be able to start up your program sooner than you think.

I'd LOVE to pull her out of ps right now, however dh won't hear of it. But I do keep bringing it up with him. Dh only wanted to homeschool our kids during junior high. (The only reason I get to homeschool ds right now is that he was falling apart in ps in 2nd grade.)
