Is Miquon new math? Is MCP math "old math"? Or are they both new?

The way I learned math was like this:

If you have 88 X 5, then you do 5 X 80 = 400; then 5 X 8 = 40. 400 + 40 = 440.

What is this? I'm curious. New or old Math? :001_huh:

I learned math in another country, so I wasn't part of this system :tongue_smilie:

Here is a glossary of definitions:

I think that it is a little challenging to classify certain math curricula as old math, new math or new new math (aka Fuzzy math). There are many programs that could fit into more than one category. Miquon does have some new new math characteristics. It emphasizes discovery based learning. But, it doesn't include some new new math characteristics like essays and calculators.

Here's some more about new new math.
