Need advice for math/LA material for dyslexic student

I need advice on the best program that I can put together for my 8 yr dd, who struggles with dyslexia. She did HWT last year and liked that, so I will continue with that. However, I am wondering about the spelling, writing, comprehension (anything else I 'm missing?) components. She is a very hands on learner, and is also in OG tutoring 2x/wk, so I want something that would complement this. She IS reading, needs work on fluency and prosody, but really dislikes writing and spelling. I feel a little overwhelmed at all the options out there, and am wondering where to go.

I have viewed a DVD of Math-u-See, and that seems good. Would this be a good choice, or does anyone else have other feedback. Thanks so much

If she's a hands on learner, your might also look at Right Start Math and Schiller Math. If she has trouble with learning her math facts, look at Addition the Fun Way and Time Tables the Fun Way.

For writing, I'd focus on copy work and dictation for now. Perhaps have her narrate her stories to you, you write them down and then have her copy her own stories.

I second those, though I have only used Right Start myself.

For LA Spell to Read and Write has worked wonderful for us. All About Spelling I also hear good things about.

I have my kids do oral (dictation, narration) work instead of writing, then I teach them to type and have them start formal writing instruction in 4th, with they typing out everything. If I make them write it by hand the quality of writing goes down by about 50%.

DS used Riggs in a traditional classroom when he was that age. At home Winston Grammar, Sequential Spelling, and IEW were keepers.

He has also used Math-U-See.

http://www.soundfoundationsbooks.co.uk/ Has a GREAT spelling program--Apples & Pears. It would go well with OG and work on her spelling and writing. The Dancing Bears program for reading is very good as well.
