I'd love for my ds to learn to play the piano but lessons aren't in the budget right now. Are there any good resources out there? Maybe a DVD or something?

Thanks!

We went to the music store and bought a couple of Alfred books from the beginning series and also bought a couple of very basic beginning books from a couple of other series.

I taught my kids at their own pace for about 4 months last school year and then we had to stop due to a family crisis. After getting through that, we waited until summer to pick it up. In the meantime, both dc played what they already learned and just plunked around.

We talked to several piano teachers and other homeschoolers and all of them agreed we could teach the first year at home and have the year to find the money in the budget for lessons the next year.

I was intimidated teaching piano at first but it was easier than I thought and so much fun. We put on a little recital for our family at Christmas last year. The kids are already asking to start practicing songs for another "recital".

Lots of free stuff here (http://www.gmajormusictheory.org/Freebies/freebies.html#First%20Pieces) + here (http://www.gmajormusictheory.org//Fundamentals/workbooks.html). I have started using these with my son and it is going well so far. HTH
