I'm looking for a sausage ball recipe that does not use Bisquick. Is there such a thing?

Thanks!

but I would love to have it if it's out there! :) In the meantime, maybe you could make a homemade version of a biscuit mix? I don't know if it will work the same, but you could try this recipe -- at least it doesn't call for shortening/Crisco. I know it still has butter in it, but it's the best I could do. You would have to make up the recipe (omitting the buttermilk/yogurt/sour cream) & then add the amount called for.

Biscuit Mix (courtesy of Family Fun Magazine)

6 cups flour
3 tbsp. baking powder
3 tsp. salt
1-1/2 cups butter or margarine
1/4 cup buttermilk, plain yogurt or sour cream
1. Thoroughly mix the dry ingredients by sifting a few times. Cut in the butter or margarine, working the dough until it looks like slightly lumpy corn meal. Store the mixture in the refrigerator in covered plastic containers or Mason jars.

2. When it's time to make biscuits, add buttermilk, plain yogurt, or sour cream to one cup of your biscuit mix. Turn the soft dough onto a floured board and knead lightly. Roll out to about 1/2 inch thickness and cut into 2 inch circles. Press the scraps together, roll and repeat until all the dough is used. Bake at 450 degrees on an ungreased cookie sheet for 12 minutes. Makes about 6 biscuits.
