View Full Version : That's it. I'm going to be an afterschooler, starting NOW.

I asked ds7 tonight if he'd like to read a Bible story before bed. He replied, "Actually, Mama, I'd like to do some third grade math instead. We haven't done that in a long time." (He was in A Beka Arithmetic 3 before going to public school this past fall. They put him in Gifted 2nd math, but it's still easy for him. They are teaching it in a different way, so I've just let it go.)

So we got out the 3rd grade math book we were using before he went to school. I had to remind him how to do a division problem, then prompt him for one or two of his multiplication facts. (Nothing major.)

Finally, he threw up his arms and said in frustration, "Mama, this is no good! I've forgotten SO MUCH since I went to school."

Okay, so I really can't homeschool any more. But we are GOING to do MATH!! Every day! Starting NOW!

Ah, sweetie.

Good for you, though. I think I'm going to start afterschooling, only it's ME going to school, not the 4 y/o. :)

they pull me back in."

Heh. :)

I can't believe he's seven. I remember posts about him as a toddler. (My son cried when I showed him a video of ME. Humph.)

Hee, hee. What is REALLY sad is that there are plenty here who remember me posting about his home birth... four hours after the fact! (I've been around these boards awhile!)

And he was the one I threatened to drive to preschool on my lawn tractor when my car wasn't working. I'll never live that one down.

And NOW look at him. Saying mind-boggling things like, "Six times eight... six times eight... Oh, why can't I remember that? It's so easy! It's the same as three times sixteen...!"

Wishing you all the best...

But that is also discouraging; spending all day in school and they having to do more work at home to fill in the gaps.

Bummer.:(

:) Maybe with some kids, yes. This kid would rather do math than play. It's fun for him and he is soooo glad we are doing it together again! (I missed it, too!)
