...before I understood your "Denny Crane" post. (We don't watch a lot of TV.) Now I'm going to have to order Season 1 of Boston Legal on NetFlix! My, but this board is soooo educational! :p

Now I have to find that post. I liked Boston Legal, being a former semi-Trekkie and Wm. Shatner hailing from Canada. But my dh loathed it. Guess he didn't get the humour--we don't always agree on what's funny! Now I don't even watch TV--I'm on strike or something.

said you had to look it up. I did too! I googled it because I had no idea...
I love the old Star Treks, but we watch very little TV, and what I do watch is usually PBS...
At least I'm not the only one who didn't know! It is pretty funny what her husband said now that I know he was really talking about Captain Kirk..:D

Well, when someone posted in that thread that they could never take "his" acting seriously, I KNEW the actor was Shatner. But I couldn't figure out who the heck Denny Crane was supposed to be. Now, Boston Legal season one is coming soon to a mailbox near me. Gotta love NetFlix!

I have to confess that, as a casual Trekker, I was sort of put out that I didn't get the joke. But I never saw Boston Legal. so that makes me feel better!

well, remember that the first appearance of Shatner as Denny Crane was NOT Boston Legal --you need to watch the specific episodes of The Practice that have Shatner to really "get" it, lol.
make sure you read the wiki about boston legal too!

OK:
In The Practice, William Shatner's character of high-powered attorney Denny Crane is brought in to assist on a case. He's brought in because of name recognition --just having him assist should make the opposition tremble!! Humility is not in this guy's vocabulary.
So they are sitting there at the table doing depositions [i think?] and as everyone is asking questions and waiting for answers, the only thing Denny Crane does is....look at the opposition square in the eye and say: "Denny Crane!" ...as if THAT should be enough, lol. He does it after almost EVERY. Question. I think the attorney pulls Crane out and asks him what he's doing --"well, I'm Denny Crane!!!! You need my help, I'm HELPING!!" I think he continues doing it. Very seriously, lol. Drives everyone nuts. The ego is suffocating.
So now, everytime Capt Kirk is in a bad situation and has that serious look to him as he's facing a foe, dh waits for the dramatic pause and hollers out ....
Denny Crane!

I love, love, love Boston Legal! It's the only show we watch religiously. Dh thinks it's funny to say his name after he passes gas http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/rolleye/rolleye0013.gif (http://www.allthedates.com).
