My dh is interviewing for a job there in 2 weeks. It's a bit of a long shot, but anyone care to give me impressions? Homeschooling climate? Anything else?

We moved from CT 3 years ago, so looking at another move is a bit overwhelming - but I am liking the south :)

I've only been through Greenville and my memory about driving through towns isn't good. I can't say a thing about Greenville itself except to say that a good friend drives there often. Her whole family lives there (seemingly).

Anyway, NC is friendly to homeschoolers. We have to register, keep shot records and attendance records, test yearly, keep those scores and that's it. I think. I know I do whatever it is I have to and I think that's it. Registering and shot records are a one time thing. Testing and keeping scores is a once a year thing. The only thing I do dialy is keep attendance.

Weather is nice. Watch out for hurricanes, mostly in the fall. No snow to speak of. We're in a drought right now, so if you come house hunting don't expect to see lots of pretty landscaping.

Good luck to dh on his interview!

Sadly, that doesn't sound easy! Both in CT and AL - no testing, no shot records - just one little form - I was spoiled!!!

Thanks for the wishes - it sounds good, and with month #8 of no income, any job would be good! (It won't start til August, though)

all my life. There is a huge homeschool group here. You would be near the ocean (1.5 hours) and about five-six to the mountains. There isn't a lot to really do in Greenville, so you have to travel to go do things, but it's doable in a day. We have plenty of restaurants, an ice skating rink, bowling alley, the parks are finally getting bigger and better. It is a growing city, not much sign of a recession here with all the houses being built. I think I remember reading last summer that we are up to 80,000 in the city now. LoriM lives here as well so she might give her opinion. Keep in mind that I have lived here for 43 years and I ready to move to another state, so I probably am not the best person to ask. :-) But, you can email me if you want to.

Well, shot records are a *parent* thing, not a school thing, as far as I'm concerned. I mean, what parent doesn't keep shot records??? LOL! The annual testing gets easier as they get older; my teens simply take the ACT each spring.

I live in Greenville--been here about about 4 years now. I work at the local community college, teach at the university, and have one teen still at home. My DH retires in August, and will be the stay-at-home parent for a while.

Greenville is delightful. Probably the best place we've ever lived...and we've loved them all. GRIN. Email me when you are coming to town.

I grew up in New Bern - a little closer to the ocean than Greenville - and my family is still there. I would prefer to live in Greenville over New Bern. You're not too far from Raleigh and, has been mentioned, you're still close enough to the beach for a day trip. I have no idea about homeschooling there, but sounds like you've gotten good feedback from those who really do live there.
