but expecting different results.

Just my thoughts after reading threads on a couple of other forums the last few days. "This isn't working." "Try this." "Oh, I couldn't do that. I want to continue to do *this*." "All righty."

I think you and my dh share a brain.

Me: "I'm so fat. I'm sick of being fat."

DH; "I'd feel sorry for you if you were actually doing something about it. You just keep saying it."

BTW, I dunno what threads you're talking about.

So, where does this expression originate? The first time I heard it, it was my dd's swim coach addressing a group of 12 & 13 yo girls (my dd missed it--she had blocked ears that day.)

I first heard it a long, long time ago.

both Ben Franklin and Albert Einstein, but according to Wikipedia, this attribution is false. The credit is given to Rita Mae Brown in the 1980s. I'm not sure if this is true or not. I do know that I, too, have been hearing it for a long time, and we use it often in this house.

I first heard it in AA. Of course, I first heard a lot of life wisdom there. That's not to suggest it was never presented to me before then.

I love this saying and it always strikes me as funny that I fail to heed the advice when I'm in the middle of something that needs to change. Forest for the trees or something like that . . .

My mom likes to quote Dr Phil, "And how is that working for you???"
