I keep reading this about classical hs and it's mostly from within the circle. I don't get it. How can a homeschool be history driven?
It's out-numbered!
Spelling, Handwriting/Composition, Literature, Phonics, Literature Analysis, Mathematics, Science, Foreign Language, Logic, Rhetoric, Grammar...
even history studies themselves are more about language arts than it is about the facts/timeline of history. Even if a family spends 2 hours a day during history, aren't they also covering LA?

History is at the center of our education. This means the LA and sometimes science are covered through the study of history.
All of language arts is covered through history. Writing, reading (fluency and ability), dictation, narration, and copy work are all done on history based literature. We follow the WTM using SOTW and the recommended extra reading. Spelling and phonics are covered when we read aloud (phonics) and write (spelling).
The only things that are not related to our history program are arithmetic and foreign language. Although, Latin does have historical relevance. We even from time to time have been able to tie science to history.
Does this answer your questions?

I would call our homeschool a history based education. And Adrienne pretty much summed up what that term means to me! :)
