I'm not sure and couldn't see online what age / grade they supposedly coordinate with....

We actually started at the end of Kindergarten last spring and are continuing this year. It starts out very slowly - a lot of the early lessons require no actual spelling just learning the phonograms and using the tiles to identify beginning and ending sounds, etc. We moved really slowly during the first lessons and are now on Step 17 (of 24) and he's probably the speller I've had.
The lesson we're on now is teaching how to tell if c or k is the first letter of a word and he's caught onto it really quickly. I can't say enough good things about this program.
The only modification I've made is that he (and I) were getting really tired of spreading all the tiles out everyday so I put magnet tape on the back of all of them and stuck them to a new cookie sheet and now we always have them ready to use, in order.

the levels don't correspond to grade levels per se. I used level 1 with ds 7 when he was in first grade last year and it was just right for him. He was still struggling with teh mechanics of handwriting, so this very gentle approach to cvc words was an incremental way to introduce spelling.
My ds5 forms his letters easily and well, and is reading fairly well for K. He's in level 1 this year, on lesson 20, and that's going well too.
The level 2 book provides some review of the level one material; if your dc is a strong writer and a strong reader, it might be fine to go directly into level 2. Otherwise, level 1 will provide a nice review of phonics, introduce the phonograms, and offer a way for you to become familiar with teaching the program.
If you email the author, she's great about responding to que.
I agree about the letter tiles :)

Maybe my dd is too young.... she will be 6 the end of March but is doing K work. Has had struggled a little in reading those short "beginning" words but I'm not so sure it's that she can't read it vs she can't sit still TO read it!! If I remember correctly AAS had activities should suit her.
Would it work to use the magnetic tiles that I bought with OPGTR?

I'm using this to teach my 6 yo to read and to help my 9 yo to spell. It's working pretty well for both.
The tiles from the program are color coordinated. I haven't seen the ones from OPGTR but I don't think they use all of the phonograms. AAS uses phonograms, so there are more than 26 letter tiles.
