My dd got an American Girl doll for CMas last year. (My philosophy is anything but Barbie. ;))

So today I heard great wailing and gnashing of teeth and out comes dd in a state of great angst. Must admit I didn't blame her when I finally realized what she was ranting about. A big blob of silly putty was stuck in her doll's hair. Apparently it had sat there for a bit too, because it had oozed out and settled in and was just an unbelievable mess.

So... sigh. I spent a long dang time this afternoon carefully picking the silly putty out and trying to restore her hair. I washed it carefully and even used conditioner.

The question at the bottom of this - how do I get rid of the frizzies in AG doll hair? Most of the hair is back to the right texture, but there are a few sections that are just frizzy and I can't get it to look right. Am I doomed to shelling out for the doll hospital?!

My dd 12, said yikes.

They have every AG doll, there is and they are handled like gold.

1.They have the hair book, it says spritz litely with water, and brush with their little wire brush carefully.

2. Take to AG hair salon.

3. Doll Hospital.
These are dd's suggestions.

Mine is see if you can teach dd braiding or some fun do's.

Well, I'm not sure it would work for a doll's hair but I use a nifty product called "Zero Frizz." It is available at WM and is relatively inexpensive. Just use a little bit - a little goes a long way. Also, before you try that or do anything else, I'd call AG and ask for their suggestions.

Have you tried misting with water as you brush with an AG brush? (If you don't have an AG brush, call her friends with dolls and ask to borrow one, or go buy one -- I think the very best deal is this (http://www.amazon.com/Doll-Hair-Styling-American-Library/dp/1593692080).) Just mist lightly with a spray bottle of water, and brush gently, starting at the bottom... Smooth the hairs together and work slowly... And, well, one of the AG tricks is to trim the individual frizzy hairs away, if all else fails.

Believe it or not. They have an American Girl Doll Hospital. You can have your dolls head replaced.:001_huh:

The AG hair salon is absolutely amazing! They've taken doll hair which looks like the wicked witch of the west and comes out looking like a new head of hair again. Hopefully you can use other suggestions first.

Jacqui, just imagine your youngest or my youngest getting ahold of a really nice doll. Imagine that in households all over the country! I can only imagine the stories the AG doll hospital has heard!

How is your dd doing? Mine would be over the top!

"Over the top" just about summed it up for a while. Fortunately (for him, I think) ds really was very apologetic and both of us believed him when he said he didn't mean to do it. I guess he moved the doll and didn't realize the silly putty was on the table, etc...

She calmed down quite a bit when she realized I was willing to work on it right away and for so long. She was happy when she saw the minor miracle I was able to pull off.

Coincidentally we're going to Chicago next week for vacation, so we'll go to the AG doll store. I may have her take her in for a 'do and see if they can do anything about it there.

Oh! She will love that. If you plane on eating there, I highly recommend the lunch as the best deal.:001_huh: The store is well thought out. The hair salon is so cute.

Yeah - I'm wondering how much this little side trip is going to cost me. :svengo:

We went to an afternoon midweek tea special. Bring your doll, have hair done, tea or lunch and maybe the musical. It was an afternoon to remember. My dd was so excited she didn't even want to buy clothes for her doll. It's been several years now but the people I spoke with to make reservations were very helpful.

The hair salon $10 to $25 for hair. They also give facials: $7 to $10.

If my memory serves me, the Tea was $22, lunch $25 and dinner $27. Lunch is the same menu as dinner except for the salmon is only served at dinner. In NY, you must call ahead and make reservations.

I've heard one of the best ways to defrizz AG doll hair is to wash it in Downey.

We were thinking of going to the store in Dallas on our vacation--Lunch is $25? What the heck do they serve?

Dd10 order the grilled cheese. Grilled cheese doesn't sound like much, but the meal came with:
Grill cheese sandwich
1 or 2 mini hot dogs
tossed salad - about 2 cups
chicken noodle soup - about 2 cups

I includes a little pastry before the meal, dessert and I think drinks are included too.

You're determined to make me feel better about this, aren't you, Gretchen! LOL

It's working though... :tongue_smilie:

Thanks for the Downy idea, Chris. Maybe I'll try that.

It is just a nice mother/daughter experience. In our case, dh came along too.

Mary in NJ had her daughters birthday party there this past spring. Talk about over the top G-I-R-L F-U-N!:D

Even the bathroom there is fun!:001_huh:

But, I'll let you find that out for yourself.;)

I just broke the "Day at American Girl Place" package deal to dh to see what he thinks. Emailed it to him so he could finish hyperventilating before he had to respond. ;)

I know it'll be a day she remembers. I'm looking forward to it to.
