Has anybody read this today? 1 in 4!!!! British people think that Winston Churchill is a fictional character!!! :confused:

I saw this today and was appalled, but then when I see the state of our own educational system and how many students don't even know when or why the Revolutionary War happened, it does not surprise me all that much. I think the focus on history in the homeschool - most especially the classical model - is unusual in educational circles. It is a huge part of our life here so I grieve right along with you.

Why be surprised? We just read that almost 25% of Americans, as of 2000, believed that the Holocaust either did not happen AT ALL, or was greatly over-exaggerated.....

It's sad but I guess I'm not shocked. Similar polls here in the states have similar results. The amount of people who don't know who George Washington was is staggering.
