My friend just called to tell of something she saw in the paper today. She lives on my street, about 1/2 mile down. This street is a meandering street that runs almost the whole length of our town. Our particular area is modest, lots of retirees and mixed in are some younger families.

Anyway, a couple was taking a walk right in front of where my friend lives. A car pulled over to ask a question of the couple. Next thing you know, the young man pulls a gun on them asking for the man's wallet! OMG! This is right down the road from me! I hate not feeling like it is safe to let my kids out to play in our yard. What makes someone get to the point where they feel this is the best option? That's just scary.

ETA: Okay, I just read the article online. It appears this happened around midnight as did another one likely by the same guy. I feel better about that. My kids are not going to be out at midnight!

I would be scared too. Good thing it's at midnight, but, still it's unnerving to know that this kind of thing happens on your road. Hopefully the police will catch the guy.

That's scary. I always get upset about any crimes in our neighborhood. It takes away from that feeling of safety.

That is scary! One time we were heading to the library and they were doing road construction and we couldn't find the entrance. There was a woman going for a walk and we stopped to ask her how to get into the library with the road construction. She looked terrified. It's horrible that we live in such a scary world that you don't know whether someone in a car is really asking you a question or is about to assault you.

You can never be too careful, but I'm a little relieved to read it happened so late at night. Still, that is too close for comfort.:grouphug:
