I am using SOTW 2 as my spine want to incorporate VP cards. How much do you have them learn off of the card . Do have them do a narration based on the cards? Or do you quiz them on the facts of the cards?
Thanks

We memorize the titles of the timeline cards. If time permits we read the backs and other books for deeper info. But we memorize the titles in chron order. We do this with Classical Conversations - Foundations prgm.

Ditto, and I'll add we memorize them by singing the CD with them.

I don't expect my kids to *memorize* the backs of the cards, but we do read them from time to time and when I go over the cards, I'll ask questions like, "So what can you tell me about the Monroe Doctrine?" And then I might ask follow-up questions looking for more depth, or some leading questions to help remind them of the bits they've left out.
So I guess the answer is, yes, we do do some informal narrations based on the cards. I don't think learning the names in order is much use, if they don't remember anything about the people or events. But I don't expect them to recite the statements from the backs of the cards either.
And yes, we also learn the VP songs.

I just use the Memory Song CD's (http://www.veritaspress.com/prodinfo.asp?number=000101)that goes with the Time line cards, I hang the cards on a cloth line type string against, and then I use those little plastic clothespins (Staples has them), and we sing the song several times a week.
I use TOG so as you mentioned the order is different, I introduce the time line cards as we learn them. Then I pop them up on the string, after I have the first 5-6 (in order from the beginning) I start the song, and we only sing those until the next 5-6 are up in order to learn more of the song :)

Thanks Pongo. That makes sense.
We make up hand signs to go with each card and to remember one to the next.
