He needs to rest so his body can heal itself and fight the germs. My dh is a complete BABY when he has a cold but in a way, it's good b/c he will immediately go lie down and rest. Me, you can't get me in bed to rest...I'm too busy! Tell dh to REST as much as possible. All the vitamins, chicken soup and echinacea in the world won't help if his body is tired/exhausted and not able to do what God intended it to do and fight the germs!

Rest, rest, rest. But something I read on the internet on mercola.com and have seen in other places... in fact, someone on these boards mentioned it as well a few posts back... is to place a few drops of hydrogen peroxide in your ears at the first onset of cold or flu symptoms. The idea behind this is that germs enter your body through your ear canals as well as your eyes, nose and mouth.

I've been doing this for years, and I kid you not, I've only had 2 colds in the last 4 years! It really works! Don't do it too often or you will dry out your ears but a couple of times at the beginning of a cold is fine. I usually let it sit in there until the bubbling subsides, then switch ears. It tickles like crazy but I usually feel better within the hour.

If anyone in our family is coming down with a cold, I load them up with Vitamin C and Cod Liver Oil - for the Vitamin A- which helps a lot. We also take an echinacea tincture that has a bunch of herbs, including Golden Seal, which works nicely.

If dh has a sore throat, have him gargle with tea tree oil- that works SO well! If no tea tree oil, salt or apple cider vinegar will work too. I've also gargled with hydrogen peroxide and fought off strep throat.

That's all I can come up with for now. Good luck!

We have found Cold-eeze to work very well in helping you get over it faster. They are a zinc lozenge that helps to boost your immune system.

Is this a cold or something else? Possibly the flu? Do I need to do anything else? Can you tell that my hubby and dc never get sick?

Any other symptoms? We've had a really bad winter this year. We've just gotten over the flu. It was an awful head cold with a really high fever. Even with Advil their fevers only came down to 101.5. It lasted 5 - 6 days each.

Have you given him any meds? How is he responding?

((hugs)) I hope he feels better soon and nobody else gets it!!

My kids are dealing with something like what your husband has. It started with a cough and then moved on to a fever of about 102, then the fever broke and now the cough is getting better. We spent about three days getting to the point of the fever, about a day with the fever and are now recovering and coughing occasionally. The worst is obviously over. Yippee!

For us, the fever was very limited and lasted about 12-24 hours and then was gone. The tylenol helped for making people feel better but didn't make the illness go away any faster. (We do tylenol here because I am allergic to aspirin, advil and all other aspirin look alikes if you can do advil it probably will do a better job with the fever.)

So far no one else has caught it (not me, not ds3, not husband). It didn't do anything scary other than make them kind of zonky for a day or so.

I hope your husband feels better soon.

He really needs to be "pushing" fluids -- that is, drinking liquids constantly. It helps with both the fever and getting over the virus faster. When I was sick with the flu and couldn't seem to get better, the nurse told me by phone to drink as much water/soda as possible constantly. It really did help, and I was better within 12 to 24 hours.
