We are currently using SOTW 2 for history with AG and before that greatly enjoyed SOTW1. Trouble is I am having a hard time requesting and getting books from the library on time, reading them on time, returning them on time... you get the picture:glare:. It just isn't working as well as I would like and has become a huge stress for me sooo... now that I am planning for the coming year I am really considering purchasing Sonlight Yr3 (History, Read Aloud and Readers only) because it seems like such a wonderful thing to have all the books on my bookshelf and not have to worry about the whole library thing. I am worried though because somewhere in the back of my mind I seem to recall someone (here on the boards?) mentioning that the Landmark book? or some such book used for 3rd year core was sort of boring. Is this true? My son loves (and I mean loves!) to read and I really like Sonlights choice of readers and read alouds for that year but again am worried about the Landmark book or other spine they use being to boring for him. If you have done this core can you calm my fears (or not):tongue_smilie: I would really appreciate it before taking the plunge and purchasing it. Also I was thinking of adding SOTW3 to the Sonlight 3. Maybe just to read from it and do a few of the activities since Sonlight only covers U.S. history that year and I would like a bit more world history added to it. Have any of you tried combining the two for that yr. If you have I would love and appreciate any info on how you did it. Wow long post! Sorry, but thanks in advance for any help!:001_smile:

Sonlight gives "edits" to supposedly make Landmark easier going, but I haven't bothered and we've really enjoyed it. You don't read huge number of pages either -- mostly 3-4 is the maximum in one day.

We're using SOTW 3 with Core 3 as well, and being a "brain-dead-and-keep-it-simple" type, we just do one chapter a week of SOTW 3 with one week in Sonlight. If the SOTW reading is in two parts, I divide it into two days. Sometimes if Sonlight is light or if we're in the mood, I do two chapters a week in SOTW 3 to keep caught up since SOTW has more than 36 chapters.

Sonlight keeps me sane. We've used a variety of things over the years including TOG, and Sonlight is best for us.

Sonlight keeps me sane.

That is what I need, sanity! :) Right now with a little one always clamoring for attention I need something I can just pick up and do no prep. required KWIM. Thank you so much for your reply.

Anyone else use core 3? Thoughts?
