For anyone who has these in their home (mine is 20x20 for our central air conditioning system) how do you clean them? The company wanted to sell us some cleaner years ago that cost an arm and a leg. They said we *had* to use that cleaner with their filters. My husband has only been spraying them with a hose, but I feel like they need to get cleaner than that. Do I need to buy their special cleaner or is that whole thing a big racket?

We have a Trane unit that has the allergy filter built in. My son cleans it for me and he just told me that he vacuums it sometimes, but if it gets too dirty for just that he washes it in the bathtub and thoroughly dries it with a hair dryer. He said it is really important to get it completely dry before you put it back in.

Dh (an HVAC man) uses his air hose to clean ours out.:D However,..... he was feeling a little.....um.....what's that word I should use instead of lazy....ah!...Yes!......TIRED!...... He was feeling a little tired yesterday and didn't want to walk 15 yards to the shop, so he carefully took one of my hard scrubbing brushes to it.;) I am sure he will be replacing it in a couple of weeks.... because he has easy access to them...;)

I'm not sure what that 'cleaner stuff' is that your refering to but it has peeked my curiousity and I will be asking dh about it tomorrow.:001_huh:
