View Full Version : Update on my rant about finding clothes for a pear-shape...

I went to Eddie Bauer yesterday. Lo and behold, they now have a "shapely" cut of jeans and chinos that are one size smaller in the waist than the hips and thighs.

Guess what!?! They had the same gaping waistband in the back, and not enough room in the hips and thighs! Arrgh!

I guess what I really want to know is, if the most common body shape is the pear (I've just heard that, but I don't know if it's true), why would most clothing manufacturers not make clothes to fit that shape?

Oh, well. I'll just keep searching. In the meantime, I'll try not to waste too much brain space on this. If this is the worst thing I have to worry about right now, I think I'm doing okay, lol.

It seems to me I know many more women who fall into the apple category these days than the pear category. I'm not sure why that is. There seems to be a lot more weight being put on around the middle, even by the teen crowd. It must be diet related.

I received a Monterey Bay catalog in the mail the other day and they have some pants that are for more curvy figures with the waist one size smaller than the hips. I haven't tried them yet. I know what you mean about Eddie Bauer. Their women's pants seem to be cut for men! I suppose their idea of curvy is different from mine.

Weird. I wonder why they would still have the gap in the back. It must not be a true size. And I completely understand what you mean by "the gap". Ugh. I can't stand that gap. Good luck with your search. I hope that you find something. I am hoping my pants last a little longer so I can put off my search.

There is a real, genuine bias against hippy women in the fashion industry. Designers *hate* that shape, are frequently quoted as saying snide things about it (well, they speak rudely about all non-anorexic women, but you know what I mean).

I was a pear until a couple of years ago, and middle age has sent my fat to my middle, so now I'm an apple. Lots, *tons* more clothing available for this shape.

It's maddening. I'm still angry about it, even though the problem is [ahem] not my problem any longer.

Doesn't Land's End make custom Jeans?
