No, William Shatner is not one whose acting can be taken seriously. But, my, how funny he is in that role in spite of it! I personally think he's using his style on purpose in that, but I have no hard evidence that he's doing that.

He was in a very serious movie when he was young: Judgement at Nuremburg. And who can forget his Twilight Zone appearance? (Actually, he was on the Zone twice, but the second time was the gremlin on the airplane.)

And I gotta say that when my friends and I were watching Star Trek when it was brand new and exciting, we *loved* Captain Kirk :-)

I have never watched him on...whatever that show is that he's on now, but the PriceLine commercials just make me want to cry for what has been lost, lol.

If you want to see Shatner at his funniest, see if you can find the documentary "How William Shatner Changed the World." It's all about how today's tech dweebs grew up watching Star Trek, and then invented things from the show that they wished were real. (How much more like a Kirk communicator could a typical cell phone look??) Shatner pokes fun at himself through the entire thing. It's a hoot!

Katherine, it's so funny you mention that!!

I caught dh making a phone call to work on his cell phone. He apparently was getting pretty creative w/ the voice-dialing function.

He flips it open, squeezes the little side button and says

"Kirk to Enterprise"

LOL!

Yup. he's a Trekkie.

For the longest time, he would refer to the kids as "Plabneesters". Well, if you recall the Star Trek episode about the Yangs and the Coms, where they bring out the tattered flag and recite The Pledge in garbled language, it starts out We Plabneesters...... or something like that, lol.

Every conversation here is riddled w/ movie quotes and Star Trek lines :D

Well, and my dh would be teasing me mercilessly if he knew I was going to write this, not only is Shatner from Canada, but so was Reginald Fessenden, who invented the first wireless telephone back around 1906 (it did NOT look like a cell phone, btw.) I loved Star Trek when I first watched it. I was too young to stay up and watch it when it was new. My brother-the-physicist practically has classic Trek memorized.
