My dd (9) seems fine now. 7pm tonight I gave her Tylenol with codeine because the toddler I am caring for threw a bottle of juice at her foot earlier and her toe still hurt a lot. We have the Tylenol with codeine in the house b/c of my ds with sickle cell. The ER I called didn't think a dose could hurt her. Anyway, I gave it to her, and half an hour later she starts coughing and throwing up. She just couldn't seem to get her breath. I called the ER back, and they told me to call paramedics. They took her to the closest ER not our usual hospital. They were able to get her under control with more albuterol, Benadryl, and prednisilone. What they did worked, but they don't know what caused it. She is on oral steroids for the next several days. I will call her doctor in the morning.

It was a crazy night. It all came out of nowhere. Snow was falling fast and heavy. My car was buried under 10-12 inches of snow. To top it off I was home alone with 5 small children and all my sitters were unreachable. Thankfully my neighbors were home. I left three of the little ones with them and took my little guy with all the allergies and sickle cell. I am really worn out.

My MIL is allergic to codeine, but I don't think it causes her to throw up. She just starts feeling really weird, her head hurts, and she passes out.

I'm wondering if the Tylenol with codeine had dye in it? I have one son who has violent reactions to different dyes. I'm glad she's home and ok for now.

It sounds like and allergic reaction to me. I am allergic to vicodin (sp) and react very similarly.

I'm allergic to codeine and yes, it makes me throw up. I mean, really, really throw up.

Allergy or just intolerance...who knows? But I reacted that way the only two times I've ever tried to take codeine. If she didn't have asthma previously, I vote for the codeine. Be sure to remember that in the future if asked for allergies to medications.

Sounds like my husband's allergic reaction to codeine. A lot of people are allergic to it.

I spoke with her allergist this morning. She was certain it was an allergic reaction. She said it was a classic allergic reaction to codeine. My dd is fine today.
