Do I need the Teacher's Manual? I am planning on using this to supplement Saxon 1 and 2. So I"ll be using the early bird and 1a and 1b. Can I just get the student workbooks, or are there other materials that I need to get?
Thanks!

I just asked this question on another forum. Seems that the HIG is not really *necessary* to teach Singapore but would be helpful. Does that make sense? Now, others may say it is essential, but most of the replies that I got were "not necessary but helpful". You could easily teach it yourself, but the HIG has helpful hints/games, etc. to teach the concepts and it also explains the Singapore method. I'm going to try to pick up the ones for 1A and 1B just to have on hand. HTH

in 1A and 1B. It is basic that you could do it without them.
Blessing in your homeschooling journey!

We'll be starting 4A in a mo. or so, have used Singapore for nearly 2 yrs (from 1B-ish), & I've never even looked at the IG.
Which is to say, if there *is* anything valuable in it, I wouldn't know. But you can definitely DO it w/out.

We started Singapore with 1a and are into 4b, soon to start 5A and have never used the Instructor Guide. To be honest, I did not know there was a HIG until a few months ago as I always buy mine at the local homeschool supply and they don't carry the HIG so I never thought about it. I am thinking I will definitely get it for 5 & 6.

You need some good manipulatives (the MUS ones are costly, but actually go along very well with the Whole/Part explanations in Singapore) As for the teacher's manuals, I didn't really need on 'til 4th grade. I knew how to do the stuff, but not in the way the book explained. It was helpful...
