Need help!? 9 yr old very active son and learning

My son doesn't have any labels, of sort. I just didn't know where to post to get some questions answered. He is very active and needs to be constantly moving, especially when learning. He has modeling clay in his hands most of the time. This has been a habit since he was two.

Today he made a comment about needed to get a lump of clay so he could think. We were playing Yahtzee at the time. I don't allow it on the white carpet so I made him put it back and he was fidgety the rest of the game.

It got me thinking...what else could he fidget with that wouldn't leave his hands blue and not leave a mess on the floors/carpets?

Any help or suggestions welcome!

What about one of those squashy rubber balls that are used for hand exercises?

How about letting him sit on one of those big exercise balls? Works wonders for my active fidgeter. :D
