Up until recently, I had no idea what United Streaming even was. I kept reading post after post about how much everyone loves it. I just got this email from Homeschool Buyers Co-op:

"Discovery Education's streaming® -- Starting Again Soon! Great news! Discovery Education has agreed to let us reopen and extend our Group Buy for their award-winning video streaming subscription (previously called "unitedstreaming") through February. We are all set to go -- just waiting for them to issue the needed coupon code.

We're really going to need your help getting the word out on this one! Here's why: Effective January 1, 2008, Discovery Education raised the price for a Discovery streaming subscription from $199 to $265! We don't need to tell you that this price increase will put this product out of the reach of many families. However, by joining our Group Buy, homeschoolers will be able to get a full year of Discovery streaming for only $129 -- that's over 50% off the new list price. If you have any doubts as the value of this subscription, just check out our members' rave reviews and Discovery streaming's awards. We'll send out a special announcement when this Group Buy has reopened. Please help us make sure that homeschoolers everywhere hear about this unique opportunity."

I am definitely signing up this time! I just signed up for the 30-day trial, and WOW is this going to make a difference in our schooling.

Does anyone know what the cost is in OHio, for this? Are the videos 'on demand' and it is computer based, right?

Hi Cin. The cost for this isn't state dependent. The cost was $199 and apparently it's going up to $265. :( Better sign up for the co-op buy! Yes, the videos are "on demand." Yes, this is computer based. But it is possible to watch them full screen, and it is possible to watch them over a TV screen if somebody in the family is smart enough to make that happen. (I live with two computer gurus.) :) United Streaming/Discovery Education is a real blessing for homeschool families. We've had it for 2 years, and I can't imagine not having it. I guess that's why they can raise the price.

Is there any difference between what you get through the group-buy and what you would get if you ordered through them directly?

Everyone be sure to check if you live in a free access state. US/DE has a link you can check. :D

I do live in a free access state, and use it:). However, even at that reduced price, I would not pay for it. Streaming takes quite a lot of time. It's not instant access even with high speed Internet. jm2c

Someone posted the just the other day that all the free access was being eliminated except for Georgia. I don't have any more info than that. If anyone has additional info or an explanation, please post.

I would LOVE to know how to hook this up to my television so my dc could watch it on the big screen. You have to sit relatively close to the computer screen and I hate the thought of them only being able to watch it on the computer.

That's the only reason I haven't subscribed before now. It sounds wonderful, but I wish they had something similar on cable or satellite!

I would LOVE to know how to hook this up to my television so my dc could watch it on the big screen.

My dh said it's easy to do on a new TV, but it's hard to do from a laptop because they don't have the right "video out." If your TV has a VGA port, you can run a cable from a computer to the TV. If it doesn't, you need a video out board.

OK, that's way past my knowledge level. But if you told that to somebody who knew what to do, they'd probably understand.

We have U.S. on the TV screen, and we love it and use it all the time.

I save the Video's to my computer, and then i could technically build them into a regular DVD if i wanted to (then you'd avoid the video out issues).

We watch full screen on the computer from the kids computer - they have and output for a 2nd monitor and i just had to buy the right cable at the Apple store for it, then it will play that way on the TV. What I really want is an Apple TV to send them too....

Gee, where is my money fairy?!?! :D

I have been watching for this to come back up. I just left the Co-op's website looking to see if a new group buy had been posted for them! I didn't see anything and then came here and there it was!

Thanks again!

LOL Cindy.... THANK you!! I'll have to ask my computer-literate neighbor for his help. He'll know exactly what your husband is talking about! :)
