We have very hard water and it finally dawned on me the other day that this might be the reason my hair seems more frizzy than it used to. Is our hard water killing my hair?

I am already lobbying for a water softener because I'm sick of the build up in my teapot, on the shower, etc...

If you naturally have hard water and got a water softener did you see a great improvement in the condition of your hair?

I kinda liked it, because it gave me highlights. Maybe that was from all the chlorine though. It definitely changed my neighbors hair. She had beautiful straight hair when she moved in and now it is still pretty, but very frizzy.

Yes, hard water has been a killer on my hair, but an occasion vinegar rinse fixes it right up again.:D

Naturally soft water definitely makes your hair much softer, etc. But I like the way my hair shows more of it's wave and body with harder water. Our water here isn't very hard, but I grew up in a place with some of the softest water due to all the granite there.

I don't know how hard your water is, but I almost fell over many, many years ago (when I indulged in such things) when the lady who did my hair commented that we must be on a well -- she could see the *rocks* in my hair! Musta been very *small* rocks as I never saw them -- but they did damage my very fine hair.

Now, once again, we are on a well and this one is even worse than the first one was. Someone suggested "Aloe Rid Gentle Clarifying Shampoo" from Nexxus and it definitely works. It is a bit pricey, but you don't use it often because it works really really well. You will strip your hair dry if you use it all the time. It's recommended for not only hard water problems, but for chlorine and other water-borne goodies.

Depending on how often I wash my hair, I use it maybe two or three times a month. It really does work miracles, and I've had this bottle for ages.

Good luck!

I blame the 5 years that I lived in Alberta for my head of frizz - I went out there with lovely curls and came home with frizz.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

Now, I'm going to excuse myself before I jump on my soapbox and start a long, utterly unnecessary rant about how much I hated living in Alberta.

Cheerio,
