like any sports? Do you consider yourself competitive?

I'm very competitive, and my Mom joked while I was growing up that if they showed 2 people pushing peas across a gym floor with their noses and called it a sport, I'd watch and find someone to root for. I used to roll my eyes at her, but now that I'm older and not so given to the assumption that whatever she said was wrong, she might be right .

Especially considering that in the last 24 hours I've watched track & field, gymnastics, ice skating, snowboarding, motorcross, hockey, and will watch the Superbowl. I even watched American Gladiators with ds7 last night. (disclaimer: I normally don't watch this much TV but dh, myself, ds2, & ds4 are all sick).

I am an above average bowler as is Dh and my girls. I coach a Homeschool Bowling league and Bowling is the only "sport" I watch on tv.....

Other than wrestling. :)

I don't like "watching" many things, I'd rather be a player than a spectator. My dh's thing is NASCAR, and while I am not amused by sitting in front of a TV watching cars drive in circles all day, LOL, I don't mind watching a race (local races, drag races, etc) in person. I specifically do NOT want to see people who have made rude comments about others (that I am aware of, I realize everyone is likely to talk crack at some point) win a race or championship, LOL.

a lot of sports, although football is the only one I watch consistently. Dh isn't a sports fan so we don't watch much. I also like to watch the March Madness tournament. I don't think of myself as very competetive and I don't really like to *play* any sports.

I'm not in the "don't care" camp, but I thought I'd chime in anyway. ;)

I'm not terribly competitive. Football is the only sport I watch, and I wasn't even interested in that until I married someone who works for one of the teams.
Even then, it took getting to know the players and coaches before I really paid any attention.

I don't like sports at all, much to my husband's chagrin.

When we were young and love was new, I would attend football games with him and pretend to care.

He is just going to have to trust me that I love him, I am not sitting through a football to prove it!

So, he will watch football, the kids will watch the puppy bowl and I will alternate between playing on the computer and writing the rest of my February lesson plans.

Uh, yes, I would say I'm competitive. And uh, for the record, I wouldn't be the one watching the two people pushing the peas. I'd be one of them doing the pushing. It would drive me nuts to watch because I'd think "I can do it better! I can do it faster!" LOL

For the most part though, I'm not a big fan of watching sports. Football is pretty much the only one. I hate basketball season, which stinks for dh because it's his favorite. I'd rather be playing the sports. Though I will be watching the Olympics.

the only sports games we ever watched was the World Series when the Padres went:(

We have been known to watch the Winter Olympics when it's skating, or the Summer Olympics when it's gymnastics. I'd watch fencing, too, if I could ever figure out when it's televised:confused:

Now, I could get into fencing...but have just not been able to connect with anyone since I've been in Texas. Maybe I haven't tried rilly, rilly hard, lol.

I could watch the Kentucy Derby, the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes...but I usually forget.

I'd have to say we're not much into sprots.

I am a little competitive personally; just not with sports. Dh doesn't have a competitive bone in his body.

LOL! As I'm watching I think "I could do that!" or "That looks like so much fun!"--it's always more fun to play than to watch. How do you think I ended up starting Judo at 31? Yep....watching my boys have all the fun for a year. And, true confession...ds7 & I both want to be on American Gladiators.

Football and NASCAR are the only 2 sports we watch regularly, but since we don't have cable if I sit down to flip through the TV I'm stuck watching whatever they've deemed worthy of showing, and on the weekends it's various sporting events. And I find myself always pulling for someone, even if I wasn't interested to begin with.

Neither DH nor I are competitive. We just are not interested in sports. Dh played some ball in school but just because his Dad was coach of the B-team. We prefer to do noncompetitive physical activity like running, hiking, biking, etc. We don't watch any television so I are not in the loop when it comes to who is even playing. Going to a ball game is my idea of shear torture. I used to enjoy a hockey game before we had children but all the games start so late around here (7pm). So basically it is just lack of interest.

Very, Very Competitive, but I've learned to curb this. But not in sports. In games. Oh, yes, board games, card games. I hate to lose. I'm much better now than I was when I was a kid, though. This, combined with my selective perfectionism I knew I could never achieved, led directly to my not trying in piano so that if I didn't play perfectly I had an excuse. However, I'm not competitive in everything. I never had one best friend, but was always happy to share friends as long as it wasn't with my sister (when I was growing up!). I had a lot most of the time I was growing up, too. Either we didn't play many board games or I was better with them than I was with my siblings, lol!

I like going to games, but I dislike sitting around and watching it on TV.

I make an exception for gymnastics and ice skating, and DH likes to watch baseball. If any of my channels got British soccer, I might watch that - so it's a good thing I don't have those channels <g>.

But in general, we're not a big sports family.

I love playing sports and watching some sports. I will always always love to watch and play soccer (though I prefer to play!). I love to watch ice hockey, especially in person (in the front row!!) Love it! I'm a very competitive person by nature.

I just don't love Football. Or baseball. Or umm... basketball for that matter. And yes... I am American! I just live in Canada. :p I like Football only if I know someone who is playing (which means I liked it my senior year of high school when my boyfriend was the running back.) I like baseball for the hotdogs (which means I hate watching it on t.v.) and I like basketball when it involves no squeaky shoes (which is never). Oh... I like Baseball when I'm playing it on the Wii too. :D

There are a lot of other sports that I like playing or watching but they generally don't involve a lot of standing and waiting for things to happen (bowling, golf, curling, baseball [and yes... there is too much stop and go in Football for my liking too] all make my soul hurt). I like the more non-stop action like hockey, volleyball and soccer. I would probably like basketball too except for those darned squeaky shoes.

Oh... and I would probably (mostly) like any sport that my children played because they fulfill the "when I know someone who is playing" thing. :^D

I am obviously in a wordy mood today because I took a lot of words to basically say, I like a lot of sports and am competitive... I just don't care for the Superbowl! LOL

Love soccer (futbol), gymnastics, like watching ice skating and golf. Never got interested in football, despite 8 yrs of cheerleading. Go figure. I'll watch any international soccer game, but loathe to watch an American football game. Maybe it's the incessant commercials and attitude that Football is Life.
Anyhow, I'm heinously competitive in everything I do. :P

This is why I had two sons - so I don't have to sit next to my husband anymore when he is watching football. I'm happy to be here working on lesson plans while they are in the other room. Now, if it were hockey, soccer, or ice skating, I would be watching too.

I'm not competitive when it comes to sports, but am ridiculously competitve when it coems to board games and cards. I won't even let my six year old beat me.

I really only like high school football. College is okay. Pro holds no appeal, but I would watch the Superbowl if DH was interested.

I'm not competitive unless I'm playing a game with people who are over-the-top competitive. A friend's DH is this way and it brings out the worst in me. Ugh.

I don't like to watch sports. I'm only interested in watching my own kids, and that can even get boring. We've had friends say they would like to come watch one of dd's gymnastics meets. (One was a blogger I've never met who has a dd in cheerleading.) I think, "Really? Why?" I sure wouldn't want to watch someone else's kid compete most of the time.

I suppose I do like to watch figure skating occasionally, but that seems like a combination of artistry and athleticism. I can watch gymnastics sometimes, too, but I can't tolerate it for as long as figure skating.

If I'm at all competitive, I'm quietly competitive. I am not the least bit competitive at cards or sports, but if it's a word or trivia game, I'd like very much to kick your butt. I just won't say it. My MIL and her mother bring out the worst competitive streak in me because the way they play games annoys me so much I want to whip them to teach them a lesson. Plus I can't stand to lose to someone (ahem, GMIL) who cheats and bends the rules. (There's no arguing with that woman. To argue with an old Italian woman is to lose.)

Nope. I can't think of any sports I enjoy and I hate competition. My dd9 has been in cheerleading at a local park for the past two years. I have no idea what's going on when the boys are playing. I'm busy watching the girls cheer. And she's been on the competition squad as well, but it's very low key. Although she loves the experience, she's not really athletic (she can't even do a cartwheel) and will only continue to cheer through age 12 since that is the age cap for this park.

Right now she's playing basketball in our city rec dept. I'm so thankful that my DH is doing this with her because I hate, hate, hate it. Watching those girls play just makes me feel so uncomfortable! Some, like my dd, are too passive and never get to touch the ball. Others are so aggressive they rip the ball right out of another player's hands. They aren't graceful at all! The ref's whistle seems to be blowing every 10 seconds. She says it's fun but after many weeks of playing she still doesn't really understand what she's doing on the court.

I'm thankful that I'm married to a computer geek who isn't a sports nut. He does have some favorite teams and he'll watch an occasional game but isn't a diehard fan. My DH has never liked playing sports and our son is the same way. :)

But if I've not watched all year I don't start up just for the Super Bowl! I'll watch on Thanksgiving no matter who's playing, but I only watch the Super Bowl if I care about one of the teams.

I do like watching baseball, and we get a "mini pack" of tickets to our local minor league team every summer (so like 10-12 games a year), I love watching hockey, and I'll watch swimming and diving if they're on... and I REALLY love watching synchronized swimming! :p

For playing, I like bocce, croquet, putt-putt golf, bowling.... I'm not much for games that require a lot of running. The warranty on my knees has long since expired....

I do like the Super Bowl just as an excuse to make some snacks. LOL If the Steelers are in the SB, I watch it and actually care. Otherwise, it's all about the snacks.

But my PASSION is college hoops. I am a huge college basketball fan. Specifically, a Villanova Wildcats fan and a Pittsburgh Panthers fan. After then, I'll cheer for anyone in the Big East. After that, I cheer for any team playing an ACC team. After that I cheer for any team playing UNC or Duke. After that I cheer for UNC (to beat Duke). I won't cheer for Duke. :D

When we lived overseas in Germany I was known to stay up all hours of the night to catch my team on ESPN due to the time difference. I can get a bit crazy about college hoops.

Except I LOVE sports!!! My kids are involved in all sorts of sports and I think I'm more competitive than they are!! LOL But, I don't let them know that of course!! I used to play soccer (until high school when they didn't have a girls' team and wouldn't let me play on the boys' team (I went to the first practice and was KICKED OUT!!!)), volleyball, basketball and run track and cross country.

Don't care at all, and the noise from the living room is giving me such a headache, I might have to go to bed. I cooked a bunch of food for them, and that's the extent of my participation.

. . . unless you count ballet.

We don't watch any sports or even any reality shows that feature competitions and eliminations. We can get really into who answered the Jeopardy question first, though.

My husband usually explains to people that he is so uninterested in sports that he doesn't follow hockey even though he's a Canadian.

We did take the kids to a baseball game once when they were little, because we got free tickets and we thought our son might like it. They got bored, and we went home before the end.

My son has always been very active, but never sports-y. He can (and does) run around the playground with the best of them and will happily toss a football or shoot baskets if there are friends involved. But he has never expressed any serious interest in playing on an organized team of any kind. Currently, he's pretty involved in ballet and dance and spends about 7 or 8 hours per week in classes, more when he's rehearsing for something specific.

We can all be competitive in other ways, such as board or card games, as others have mentioned. My daughter and husband have ongoing rivalries over things like who has the highest score on certain computer games, for example. I used to be very much so, but not so much anymore.

Actually, I do know what the Superbowl is, but I didn't know it was this weekend. I don't know nor care who is playing. It is not important to my life or the lives of my nearest and dearest, nor will it have any effect on them at any time in the future. Therefore, it is totally irrelevant and of no importance.

I would say that we are as competitive as we need to be in the area of music, as in auditions for parts in orchestras, or even the piano auditions. Piano is not really for a "place" but if you are performing to a certain level.

Dd used to audition for ballet parts, and I guess that could possibly be viewed as competitive. Or when we audition for theatre roles.

Sports? We don't need them. Waste of time and money.
