Okay. There are the 1- or 2-day schools where professional teachers teach a class. Your student could take one or all classes there. Some classes, like math or English are taught on one day while others are taught on a different day, so your children could attend one day or both.

What do you call these in your area? Do the teachers teach all the concepts, grade papers, and cover all subjects? What do you like or dislike about it? What is it?

I've often heard them called "hybrid" schools -- they're part home school / part private school.

There are also "university model" schools that sort of follow that pattern (though what qualifies as a UM school is more specific, I think)...

Some are called "cottage schools".

Here, some are called "tutorials."
Ds attended one in 4th grade that covered History, Language Arts (grammar and writing), Science, and Latin - it was not a good fit for us, because we lost one of the best parts of doing it all ourselves - teaching to mastery. So he understood grammar, yet cdn't move on, and DIDN'T get Latin because the teacher moved too fast. For the one ds attended, the teachers ("tutors") graded papers, but the actual grades were up to the parent, who was still the "teacher."

The best part was the ds and I did not kill each other that year, which we might have done had he not attended (3rd grade was rough....) :D
