Local farm stand FINALLY has sweet corn grown less than 20 miles away. I had to boil some on the cob for hubby, and saute some off the cob for braces, er, dd, and self. Lots of butter and salt and butter. I am happy.:)

Yummy! Do you ever grill it? Spray it w/a little cooking spray and season w/a little garlic powder and salt. It's really, really tasty. The grill seems to bring out the flavor of the corn more.

Dang, I can't wait to have some, still waiting here. I like to pan fry it.

I've wanted to do this, but I am afraid of ruining all that wonderful corn.
Do you have tips for a first-timer?

We had my dad's corn today. It was YUMMY! We cut it off, pan fry it with butter, salt, and pepper. It just doesn't get any better!:tongue_smilie:

My dad grows corn on a few acres, picks it all by hand, and sells it to a lot of people in their are for $3 a dozen. We were there for his birthday (71!), and he gave us silver queen to bring home. He plants about 4-5 different kinds each year so that they'll be coming in at different times since he picks it all himself.

He doesn't use any pesticides, but wish he'd find out some natural methods, there was a worm at the top of just about every one. I'm kind of grossed out by things like that.

Enjoy the corn!

Soak the corn for thirty minutes in a bucket of water. Don't remove the husks. Soaking and leaving the husks on actually steams the corns while on the grill. Drain the corn, place on the grill, and cook for 30 minutes. Pull back the husks, smother in melted butter and salt, and enjoy!

Three dollars a dozen! I paid .88 for 2 ears of corn the other day at Kroger.

I noticed you are in TN. What part? My dad is just outside of Etowah and will have more corn coming in the next 3 weeks at least.

YUM! Our corn has ears on it, but they aren't ready yet. I hurried out to fertilize it today before the rain:)

Garrison Keilor has an CD on which he sings a hymn to sweet corn. I always think of it this time of year.

Goes something like:

... And we thank you, dear Lord
For this glorious life
And thanks for the day we were born
And the gifts you have given
Especially this heavenly fresh, sweet corn.

It's kinda goofy but sweet.
