Any recommendation how to build math skills in the area of story problems? Multi-step story problems specific.

What math program is she currently using? You might try Singapore's Challenging Word Problems. Start w/ one level below. If she is in 6th grade, start w/ 5.

Also, sit down w/ her and walk her through them. This is basically a "how to read it" problem. I ask my kids questions like "What information are we looking for?", then I ask them "What info. do we already know?", and then I take them step by step and show them HOW to find what they are looking for. I also have them hightlight, or underline what they are looking for, and I have them cross out info that is not needed to work the problem.
