Oldest tried to jump off a 4+ foot retaining wall and slipped. He landed and compressed his wrist in a flexed position. This morning he was not wanting to move it so they sent us to the ER. Didn't appear obviously fractured but was treated as such. He's got a lovely splint and sling for now. We'll have a follow up with an ortho this week to see with more xrays and such.
I teased him that luckily it's not his writing hand so school is still safe! Thankfully it wasn't bad. I am surprised that with 2 active boys, this is our first potential fracture. Woohoo!

Poor guy, I hope it's not fractured and he feels better soon. I am LOL at your comment about the writing hand though. I have said the exact same thing to my ds. We are sooo mean. :-)

And glad you'll get to keep up with school !

(knock on wood) all my girls have ever done is the oldest keeps insisting on breaking both of her thumbs( and this does affect her as she is a bowler) and youngest likes to fall down and poke holes in her head, resulting in stitches. :)
My brother was very much like your boys, only we had our own chair in the ER. :) Funnily enough, he never broke anything, just required stitches, slings, bandaids, etc.. and LOTS of them.

Glad it wasn't too serious. Sadly, they know me at the ER. ;)

I hope it isn't too bad when you follow up!

Ouch! Sounds painful. Here are hopes for a quick recovery...

I hope it is not broken. In my 22 years of parenting and marriage the only broken bone we've had has been my husband's hand.
I do believe the children would handle it better than he did, however. I went out to the garage one evening and found him using his Dremel to cut the cast off his hand. I said "I don't think you are supposed to do that." And he said "What are they going to do about it?"
I hope your guy heals up quickly and with minimal (or no) pain!

I'm sorry he's potentially broken! I'm breathing a sigh of relief with you that it wasn't his writing hand, LOL. When my dd broke her arm (twice) it was her writing hand, and it took forever to get her straightened out. She writes pretty well with her left hand (or, at least she did then) so I finally made her do that so we could get some work done. Then, when her cast came off, she wanted to switch back to her right, but the muscles were weak, so it was easier with her left, and she was very frustrated by the whole experience. I suppose it's the perfectionist in her. :D

Wonder if he's a long lost relative of my dh, who instead of going to the ER to get stitches like he needed, he used superglue and butterflys to hold his wound together (above his lip, nonetheless). The reason he didn't want to go? Because it was Friday night and he didn't want to pay the copay.

Thanks for the well-wishes! He seems to be okay. No pain -- that's good. Hopefully when we go to the ortho, it will be nothing. Some friends/neighbors from church -- well the dh of the couple -- is an ortho. I called them to see if the ER had done the right referral for me. The friend said that they just assigned ds to the DR on call for the weekend. I can call his office tomorrow and tell them we are friends and would like to see him if we want! Ds would like to do that, so we will. I am glad he is not hurting at all.
So, thanks y'all!:D

LOL-just kidding, trying to inject some humor into the new boards! I'm so glad everything worked out okay-it can be so hard watching them go through pain of any sort, can't it?

LOL! It wouldn't surprise me. He seems to have to put them up in and around his mouth all the time. Drives me crazy with that.
thanks!
