Hi there,
I'm happy you're here!
My ds, 8, seems to have much in common with your dd,9.
He has PDD-NOS, ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorder,Fine motor
problems, trouble with handwriting and needs to be tested for
LD.
I think it's amazing and wonderful that you're homeschooling all
your dc. I'm nervous about how to divide my time between my
two, but I know it's what I'm called to do and that it'll work out.

Where in MN are you from? I'm in the South but I have lots of
family in Duluth and the Twin Cities. Just got back from a visit
there in fact!

Looking forward to sharing info and ideas.
Liberty.

Welcome to the boards.....:seeya:

I have no experience with SP needs kids so I have no advice to really offer you but I can be supportive and send you a hug when you need one.

My youngest son has a type of dyslexia but we found out his problem wasn't actually dyslexia per se but a visual problem. He has Irlen syndrome. "It was origianally called Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome. It was first identified by an Educational Psychologist named Helen Irlen in the 1980's. She wrote a book called: Reading by the Colors (Avery Press, 1991), to support individuals with Irlen Syndrome. The exact cause of Irlen remains unknown. However, it is believed to originate in the retina of the eye or in the visual cortex of the brain. Individuals with Irlen Syndrome seem to see words that our blurry, have patterns or appear to move on the page. As the individual continues to read, the problem seems to worsen. Although colored overlays and filters are used to help individuals with Irlen Syndrome, they sometimes appear to reduce the perceptual distortions and visual stress experienced by 'some' children during reading."http://irlen.com/index.php

All three have it to varying degrees but my youngest is the worst. We are finally getting his reading up to par.

Bless both of you...I admire you both for homeschooling and doing what you feel is best for your children.
