Have you found any other "cheaper" brands with built in belts, not ties that you've been just as happy with? (This would be for an 8 & 6 y/o.)

By built in belts do you mean the elastic and button ones on the inside of the pants? If so, then I get my boys ages 8 and 5 (but tall!) their cargo pants at Kohls. With a good sale I can get them for about $15-$20 a pair, sometimes cheaper. I would love to buy LLBean though. The pants I get at Kohls wear really well, I think. My 8yo is easy on pants but my 5yo makes up for it. His pants just barely last the season.

If price isn't an issue, I'd go LL Bean. I really love their stuff! My dh even has a leather jacket that he bought from them 20 years ago and it still looks like new.

I have lots of Lands End pants, and I they're great for my two slim boys.

Cherokee brand at Target usually has the built in adjustable waistband. Quality is lower, but the price is good. My boys blow out their knees in daily wear pants, no matter the brand, so I like them for around the house.

is adjustable. We've tried adjustable waist pants and end up having to adjust the button so much that they complain about all the excess holes/elastic hanging, I hate to cut it not knowing how younger siblings will fit those - YKWIM? I haven't tried the cargos but have had them bookmarked and decided to try a couple pair for this fall since they need longer pants anyway. The Lands End specifically come in slim, would the regular LL Bean be to baggy? Hmmm.

I bought some LL Bean cargo shorts for my VERY slim 12 yo this summer. They are a little too big, but we kept them anyway. I would think if you found a slim size that they'd fit better.

Have you tried Target? This same child fits well into their adjustable waist pants. But, he does have to tighten them to the smallest button.

Let us know what you find that works.
