LLATL??

What do you honestly think? Is it enough grammar? Somehow I got talked into it and now looking at it at home I am left wondering if it will be enough.

It is, if you also do Latin....

When we did LLATL, I didn't want grammar in my English program. We had enough grammar elsewhere (French as a first language, Latin, and Greek) LLATL was English as a second language for us, so my son didn't need grammar.

I think it is enough. My kids got burned out doing R&S and even GWG last year. Too much focus on diagramming and they just didn't retain it. LLATL has been a good change. Just enough grammar. LLATL covers diagramming in the Green book, too. My philosophy has changed a lot, too. I don't think I'm going to go back to teaching diagramming in the early elementary years. It can wait until 6th or 7th.

We are doing latin 1 this year and we are doing beautiful feet for history of the ancients. My son needs the grammar rules though he is in 5th grade. He is doing good in language arts but reads soo good and wants more of that in his schooling so I thought I would put this in there and see what happened. The books are way smaller than what he reads but maturity wise I felt they were a good choice. Then I got home and it seems like it doesn't have as much grammar,(which could be a good thing) I guess I am just worried that he won't learn if there isn't a lot of grammar. He is good at spelling and I want to do the writing in beautiful feet instead of LLATL. Being in my second year in homeschooling at curriculum time I feel really inadequate to choose. I hope all this makes sense. I guess we will be trying it and just see what happens.

Even though WTM recommends lots of more formal grammar, I found that kids who love to read tend to just know grammar. And if they don't get it when younger, they catch up fast when older (13-14+). It's mostly review every year anyway.

LLATL has enough grammar and is a great program. But the problem I had with LLATL was that my son was really advanced in some areas but not enough in others (like in a given level the reading was way too easy, but the spelling too hard.) LLATL probably would've worked find with the next kid, though, but the ability gap is always a consideration.
