My son, who is 11 and a great reader, wants to study the British Empire in conjunction with the American Revolution. Does anyone know of any books from an English point of view. He'd like to learn about the period leading up to the American Revolution.

Thanks so much,
Norine

on these boards was Churchill's A History of the English-Speaking Peoples. It comes in four volumes:

Birth of Britain (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Birth-of-Britain/Winston-Spencer-Churchill/e/9780760768570/?itm=7)

The New World (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-New-World/Winston-Spencer-Churchill/e/9780760768587/?itm=3)

The Age of Revolution (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-Age-of-Revolution/Winston-S-Churchill/e/9780760768594/?itm=4)

and

The Great Democracies (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-Great-Democracies/Winston-Spencer-Churchill/e/9780760768600/?itm=2)

They're very, very good!

Also, we own this set of History Channel DVD's:

A History of Britain: The Complete Collection, narrated by the very good Simon Schama. I can't find the link to it right now, but it's sold by the History Channel.

Britain's history is fascinating! Best wishes to you!

Both of these books can be found at The Baldwin project or can be purchased through www.yesterdaysclassics.com or at Amazon.

The first book has a chapter on George Washington. The books are written from a British perspective during the height and the beginning of the end of the empire. They are pro empire books.

The Struggle for Sea Power by M. B. Synge www.mainlesson.com/display.php?author=synge&book=seapower&story=_contents

Growth of the British Empire by M. B. Synge www.mainlesson.com/display.php?author=synge&book=growth&story=_contents

These two books are part of a 5 book set on British history.
