She really needs to get the basics on how to use a dictionary, encyclopedia, atlas, etc. I would really like some sort of workbook with exercises that have her go to a source to find information! She really has a lot of trouble with understanding key words, how to synthesize information, etc. Thanks!

Most language arts books such as CLE, BJU, and ABeka would have those kinds of exercises in them here and there, but for more concentrated work on a specific area, check Educator's Publishing Service at epsbooks.com. I've bought a few good ones that target certain skills I have wanted to work on more intensively.
Hope you find what will work for you!

RRC sells a series called Information, Please! It's set up like library treasure hunts, sort of, to help them learn a large variety of research skills.

Seconding the Information, Please! series. Also, we've done several field trips at libraries in which the kids learn about various resources, how to use the library and how to use the computer databases.

Our area branch schedules these for homeschoolers, as well. They also teach them how to use the online catalog and how to do research online, etc. (We ask them for the type of programming we want!)
