Did you just have your child read through it? Wondering how to to the assignments without a teacher's edition. K
Unless you're really confident with physics, I wouldn't do it. It is important to make sure you're on the right track with solving the problems and you can't do that if you don't know what the answers are.

We did it w/o TE BUT I did purchase the supplementary workbook thing that had the answers to half the problems in the text. I can't recall the name of the applications/workbook but it was quite good at applying the chapter's material and worked great. We used the 9/e. And, we used it in 8th as prep for a high school level physics course. If you feel more comfortable with the manual, by all means get it!
