We are doing Saxon Algebra 2 this year......at the end of last year (Algebra 1) my dd needed a different calculator for some of the problems. It was the very last weeks of school so we just skipped some of those problems. I'm assuming she will need one for Algebra 2.

What kind of calculator do I get for her?

Any suggestions on what you have in your homes?

the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition. It's approved for both the PSAT and ACT tests, which is one of the reasons why we got this edition.

So far it's taken our girls through Algebra 1 and Geometry. Hopefully it'll still serve their math needs for a while!

We purchased a TI-83 plus when my teen took College Algebra and Trigonometry at the local community college. It was a requirement for the class.

The same calculator was already required for the lower level Algebra course at the CC; however, my daughter used Lial's Intermediate Algebra at home for Algebra 2 with a more basic calculator.

I really like it....you can use it on ACT or SAT and it is easy to read and faster than the 83s. I have a TI-89 and while it is great, it is harder to use and harder to read....tiny print on the screen makes 8s look a lot like 0s.....at least if you need bi-focals!

My wife found a TI-84 (not the silver edition) at our local Walmart, brand new in the package foe $30. I know the silver edition has more features, but for that price my son will have to be satisifed with the basic one.
