Do potato bins work? Do your potatoes turn green?

We're getting too much light in the pantry and my potatoes are turning green, help!!! If I buy a potato box (something I've never had), will it help, or will they turn green anyway?

they shouldn't, if it's dark. You don't want to store them by onions, tho. I know some potato bins are potatoes and onions side by side, which is a huge no-no. I have noticed that sometimes my Save-a-lot potatoes will turn green if I've had them for awhile - they tend to get gross after awhile anyways, and I wonder if they are old to begin with or what. I try not to buy them from there if I can help it.

I have a potato and onion bin. The potatoes do not turn green. Why shouldn't the two be near each other?
